Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
There was an article in Sur this week which said that many official taxi drivers have lost their jobs because of British pensioners doing airport runs. If they are not doing that it is looking after rented properties, plumbing and allsorts. Some seem to live from hand to mouth.
Anyone whose income is in sterling will have seen their lifestyle cut. Even if you had £5000 pm it has still been a considerable cut. Euro is 1.20 though today, still a long way to go though to make us happy. I can remember whinging when it fell to 1.42...happy days.

Too long after what happened in Alhaurin El Grande at the week-end. as soon as I can sell up I am off. Disgusting place to live, AEL, Andalucia or anywhere in Spain.

Over the past couple of weeks, two notorious British paedophiles have been caught in Spain, the wife of one of them killed both their children in a hotel room. Both made headline news on Spanish TV
Noone is saying they will never visit the UK because all British people are paedophiles!

I've been here 7 years on 30th June and wouldn't go back. It's been a struggle at times but beats England

Its easy to make money in the UK, be it self employed or as an employee ,younger expats ( 35 to 55) should think of their future and their kids, most dont and will end up in *hit street, your not going to get a worthwhile pension fund together in Spain and 99% wont be able pay university fee`s on a Spanish income either.

Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
Indeed, reading this thread, you'd think it was all one way traffic, there are loads of Spanish that have forsaken Spain for pastures new. The vast majority have good jobs, earning decent money, whilst most expats that I see working in Spain seem to be scratching a living working for peanuts. (Excluding highly successful business men like cricketman of course!)http://www.forolondres.com/foro/

In this modern era not everybody needs to change jobs to move abroad. More & more work from home so providing you have telephone/internet it doesn't matter where you live. One friend of mine sits by the pool each day wearing a bluetooth headset giving computer advice to people daft enough do ring a £1.99 per minute helpline. Don't worry about the pension fund either cos I still manage to put 5% away each month.
It isn't all doom & gloom. Yes there is a recession on & yes people need to think seriously about work before moving but the same can be said for anybody thinking of moving back to the UK
