Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
The figures were from an article on immigration into the UK. They reckoned that the biggest group were returning expats, and gave the figure that about 70% returned within three years.
Interestingly, they also said that the same applies to people who move much within the UK itself. Most tend to go home fairly soon, ie within that 3 year period.

They would rather do a media studies degree or try to get on X-factor then study be a doctor or nurse. That is why Britain has to import so many health workers.
In Spain it is even possible for doctors to be unemployed as there are too many doctors to go round! Some go to the UK or US, for the better pay too.

Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
We've been here five years full-time and one doing half-and-half. At some point we will relocate permanently to the UK but have no plans to do so as yet. (Have to wait at least five years until we are both 65 and don't have to pay any tax on the sale of the house. ).

I am sceptical of this popular opinion. I am hearing that the problem lies with
the previous government setting targets for diversity or whatever it is called. Job application forms are very intrusive and ask a lot about ethnicity.

CIENTOS DE MÉDICOS EXTRANJEROS QUE DESCONOCEN EL CASTELLANO LLENAN YA LAS CLÍNICAS DE ESPAÑA

In Spain, they won't accept foreign (or European) specialists without putting every conceivable 'pega' they can in their way. Specialists must be 'homologized' with rules written here specifically to make sure that they aren't. Any foreign degree - if not an exact match of a Spanish one - is worthless. Most specialists coming here to work would have to pass their school exams again, or as someone says elswehere (my site):
'...Basically, my only option would be to go back to school in Spain, retake my ESO, Bachillerato, degree...
And that's not counting all those kids who come over here with stuff like NVQs, City & Guilds, qualifications from the Institute of Blah...
So much for 'free movement' between member states, and the right to live and work in any EU country!!!!!'

Then insist on an english speaking doctor , its his right! take it to the top if you have to and even the press , having a dig at me will not help his situation.

Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
Ha! No, what I'm saying is that it's impossible to say that most expats move on, because we just dont know ... for instance none of the expats here I knew when I came here have moved back, but I aint claiming that most expats dont go back

Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
must be
it'll be a Spanish fishing village again soon!
it's true though - by the end of the summer there will be just one British family that we know from our first year here, still here
they don't live IN Javea though

Re: How Long Have You Lived Here?
I can believe that! It's just that someone claiming it's difficult to find a doctor that speaks English a bit far fetched, IMHO.
