Default How long can you get a driving license for?

A neighbour has just told me that things have changed and now for over 70s they will only get a driving license renewed for 2 years?

Apparently, accident stats show that a high percentage of accidents involve older drivers and this has caused the change -

But I am still not sure this is a fact?

Over 65 and it is valid for 5 years as opposed to 10 for younger ages. ( In Spain, of course)

I read about this last week not sure if it is a proposal or has actually already changed.
This is what I read

My FIL has to renew every year as he had cataracts and thats how long his licence lasts for now.
In fact his licence was suspended while he was waiting for treatment (the hospital took it off him and sent it back to the DGT) He was told to reapply after the treatment..
I think at 75 he was only being given 2 years and he was in OK health wise. And this was still the case at 80.

There's this on the DGT website which says that it's every 5 years for over 65s and may be less depending on the result of the medical test (see Preguntas Frecuentes near the bottom of the page).

If you're e.g. a bus or goods vehicle driver then it's every 3 years for over 65s.
