Default How to find a rental property in Cadiz?

Hi Everyone,

After living in the UK for 12 months, last week my husband and I packed all of our stuff into our car and caught a ferry over to Spain. We are now looking for somewhere to live for 3-6 months.
We originally thought Seville looked good but after being here for a couple of days we realize that it doesn't have the lifestyle we want and we are thinking of living in Cadiz.
We are after a furnished rental apartment or town house that has at least 2 bedrooms so we can have family come and stay and really want somewhere that is safe, relaxed and interesting.

Could anyone give us some advice on where to go and look for rentals, how much we would be looking at to pay and what areas in Cadiz are nice for a couple in their 30s who are after a quiet, laid backed, easy life style.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, we're not really sure yet, probably the city as my husband needs reliable internet in order to work? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

Cadiz City is one of the more expensive places in the Province because there is no more land and is already full. Buying an apartment in Cadiz seems exorbitant and I would think rents are too. The summer months would push up rents even higher. Consider looking also at nearby San Fernando and Puerto Real which is linked with good bus or rail services. Also El Puerto de Santa Maria also linked with nearby places like Jerez and Cadiz with catamaran ferry. Taking a bus or train to El Puerto de Santa Maria will be easy from Seville for a day trip. Some of the other towns around the province like Arcos de la Frontera have most of what you may be looking for.

You need to look at www.mycadiz.biz for a local forum.

Also Cadiz city is horrendous for parking.

That is why you would be better outside of the city in El Puerto or Chiclana.

Thanks for the advice, we are going to have a drive down along the coast this week and check out some real estate agents in the areas we like. From looking on the web it looks like the rental prices are A LOT cheaper than Seville, even in the centre of Cadiz.

As you are not an EU citizen, do you need a permit to stay in Spain ?

Are you city-dwellers or town dwellers?

Down the coast I would look at Vejer and also consider Tarifa. Chiclana and Barbate don't do a lot for me although Barrosa beach is nice and Zahara de los Atunes has a wicked beach but is probably a bit quiet.

For 3-6 months Tarifa might work out better - cosmopolitan enough (for Cadiz province which is not the most cosmopolitan part of Spain) to be interesting, bound to be able to have broadband and possibly used to short-term furnished lets due to the windsurfing crowd.

Central Cadiz would be pretty good, especially in the old town - you wouldn't need to use the car much so parking whilst a pain wouldn't be terminal on a daily basis. Pick somewhere near the cathedral. I'd like to live in downtown Cadiz at some point, note that the spoken Spanish in Cadiz area can be a little "thick" to understand.

Actually we are both EU citizens as we have British passports, so it's not a problem!
