Telling them that they don't speak English works?

They always seem to target English tourists. They hassle you speaking English and if you answer them in another language they give up. 🕵 Fuel is much cheaper here 🚗🚕🚙

If they are speaking to you in English then telling them they don't speak English probably isn't going to help. Shouldn't you be saying "no hablo ingles" in these circumstances.

No hablo Ingles o Romano might work even better.
Actually they aren't only targeting English tourists.
By speaking English they are targeting those from N.Europe and elsewhere as well.
In fact they are much more likely to fall for it

One advantage of working in several EU countries is I have a basic understanding of a few languages. Sometimes I will respond with > Ik ben Nederlander, spreek geen Engels. That always works

The working girls used to spread themselves about all over the place, but they're rarely on public view these days since the law started chasing them off the streets, roads, roundabouts and service stations.

They're as rare as hens teeth outside the touristy areas.

I know the area on the west of La Palma where fairly recent eruptions occurred and heard it mentioned that a big one there could take out New York and the East Coast of the U.S. but as for a large part of the island possibly falling into the sea, that's certainly news to me.
