Sorry, didn't see your post until this morning, I logged off early last night, had a bath, a HUGE piece of gateau and curled up in front of the tv (hubby was out). No we haven't got any more news on the house, I sent an e-mail to our solicitor yesterday and am still waiting for a reply. It is a nice house but sadly it is looking more and more like we may not get there :unsure:

Yes I was watching the Selling Properties Abroad programme. That poor couple with the cave house :ohmy: I really felt for them, when he started crying it brought tears to my eyes. Such a dreadful thing, the builder was responsible for the deterioration and he didn't seem to care! Am I right in thinking they said it was a 'new' cave house and not an original and was dug into the wrong type of earth? :confused:

Hi Lionda,

Not quite sure about the cave,I was on the lappy,and O/H was busy tiling the kitchen so we taped it,will prob watch it tonight,I only got to see bits of it,cant use lappy and watch telly at same time,cor thats multitasking....dont do that :(

Hi all.

Thanks Brisca and chrisw for the replies. My little poodle is a real charmer. I'm sure she can't wait to get out there - the only time she likes to go outside here is when there's a big ferocious yellow ball in the sky, so she can lie on her back with her legs in the air... panting...

We are hoping that everythings tied up in time for us to move over in June/July. Wendy wife may be able to get there sooner, but we'll just wait and see. We know it's for certain, so it's pointless getting impatient. We're moving to Sierra de Yeguas, the so-called geographical centre of Andalucia. A nice little town/big village, with it's own footy team, mountains, flat land, olives (of course) and soon to have another beauty and holistic therapy provider. I say"another" - we're not sure yet, but if it happens it happens, we're not in a rush. We've still got our poodle to get accustomed to the Spanish ways. Perhaps she'll take up swimming if it gets too warm - just have to make sure she can actually get out as well...

Hi Chris, just to let you know although I did not bring my Siberian Husky with me (yes, a nordic snow dog in Spain), I have found that dogs adapt very well to the climate here as long as they have plenty of access to shade (my husky lies in the sun by choice!) and fresh water. Also, I found it is very useful to remember that because of the difference in heat and humidity, small things like the amount of time it takes for wet food to go "off" if left in a bowl is very short (best to change to dry), and any tiny cuts etc., should be treated quickly and well with ·Betadine" - you can get it in any chemist. Also, very important to keep them de-flead and de ticked (most people use Spot on or the spray of the same). There are GOOD and BAD vets in Spain, you will soon quickly find out.... do not be suprised when they send you to the local pharmacy to get a doggy pescription for antibiotics designed for humans - when you look up the latin name you will find it is the same. I also found the internet invaluable if I got lost trying to explain something to my vet - they all understand the latin names for diseases. My dogs love it here, they have the countryside, the beach and a very peaceful life - hope you and your GSD does too !

Hi Lesley, :thumbsup: and what a lovely first post! Welcome to the site. The advise you offered was very useful thank you. I definately WOULD have been surprised to have been sent to a pharmacy for a dog's prescription! And great advice about Betadine ( I am asumming this is an anticeptic?).:blink: Can't wait to get out there, still got to sell our house, but did have a viewing today. Not counting on anything, :blink: just fingers crossed! :eek:

Yep, Betadine (or Betadina in Spanish) is an antiseptic, just the same as they use in vets in the U.K. (yellow bottle) but if all else fails warm saline water is a non agressive cleanser for wounds (I do actually know more about horses than dogs... but there are a lot of similarities...)
