House sitter - Recommendations needed
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? We're looking for house sitters to start in around 4 weeks time (maybe sooner), the person who usually looks after things in our absence can't do it anymore so thought a house sitter might be the answer. The finca is in the mountains but only around 25 minutes from Malaga City centre and the airport and is near to the white villge of Casabermeja. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

There are plenty of Brits in the general vicinity; do you not know anyone apart from the previous 'caretaker' you'd trust to keep an eye on the place for you? (or any other nationality, for that matter!).... why isn't this in Spain?

Thanks Sharon, but we are down a 1.7k track and it seems that everyone we know is reluctant to make that effort even though we have offered to pay! We concluded a house sitter would be easiest all round.

Yes of course I understand, do you know someone who might do it then? We have 2 campo dogs who don't live in the house, they just need feeding, watering and a little tlc. The stay would be for a minimum of 3 months upto a maximum of 5 months. The only other things would be to keep the housenince and clean and to water out plants.

I would never trust my pets/house to someone on an internet forum. I am sure some are very genuine but there are a lot of nutters out there...beware.

This may come as a shock but some of us here on these forums are actually really nice people. Not out to nick the family silver or hold parties in peoples homes. I also understand that there are some who are maybe not but I would assume that they would meet who ever it is they are leaving their home to before they go and they are the best judge of character, even if you reply to an add you can not always know who you are getting. Have a little faith in people, you may actually get a surprise.
Had it of only been a week or so I may have been able to help out but with my parents coming I can not help. Do have a friend that does house sitting but not sure they would do 3 - 5 months. Good luck with your search

I believe you, I'm convinced! Being honest and trustworthy myself, never been in any form of trouble, I'm sure I'm not alone in joining you in your club!!! Equally, I'm sure the OP would not hire someone without checking them out first. 5 months is a long time though, but it might suit someone.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let us know if you need any further help.
