House Insurance
Hi,
Can anybody tell me if 262 euros is a lot for a two bed 1 bath apartment for house contents insurance. Primarily as I understand it Buildings insurance is covered in your community fees. My bank with whom I am insured have just charged me this for my annual insurance, which I assume is contents. i seem to be insured for: continente 132.760,00 muebles, enseres y ajuar 14.040,00 This seems exorbitant! Does this seem dear to you? If so who do you use? bearing in mind my place is near Fuengirola and i would like little hassle in sorting it out! Thanks (this forum is great) LPH |

Re: House Insurance
I pay 540 for both though BBVA but I will be looking around in Jan 2009. We have no mortgage or debts with anyone but that's the price we pay. I see from above posts banks are insisting you have this and not that product because that person has a mortgage. That practice by the banks in the UK is illegal. I wonder if that's the case here but they just try it on.

Re: House Insurance
When i've searched for house insurance I have used the below web sites. They seem to be good. I can vouch for the bottom one, as I have purchased through them before. In my experience it is cheaper to get insurance in the U.K., with the added benefit of the policy being written in English(yes I know I should learn Spanish, but i'm not that good at it yet)

Re: House Insurance
Friends of ours were told by the Bank (with whom they have their mortgage) that if they didn't have house insurance with them then the mortgage would be increased. They decided to go elsewhere and, true enough, the mortgage was increased.

Re: House Insurance
Thank you all for your kind replies. This thread certainly highlights an oddity of the spanish system for insurance. Up til now I have just paid it, as it was never that expensive (its with the mortgage bank)
But now it seems to have gone up a lot. I will see my bank on my next visit and argue the toss, i have learned that even if your community building is separately insured, you still need some buildings cover yourself (so say the managing agents). If I can break away I will try the Uk site you have kindly sent to me ! Thanks LPH |

Re: House Insurance
Just a note regarding contents insurance. I have found that some companies will not include cover for theft of contents unless you are living in the property permanently. ie if you only use it for holiday visits they will not pay up if someone breaks in and nicks everything.
Please read the small print. ;) |

Please read the small print. ;) Also, leaving keys with a keyholder can be a problem too. |
