Re: House Demolished
You feeling insecure?
Getting back to the original subject though, I cant ever see somethong like this happening in the same way in the UK. I know thats immaterial, but at the end of the day there are procedures to be followed as there must be here. I know it was said earlier that its not just Brits effected, but to be honest every report I see of this kind of thing DOES seem to be Brits.

Re: House Demolished
And legally built proerties can be demolished,it's called compulsary purchase!
1 Clearance of unfit housing - Housing Act 1985.
2 Bringing empty properties back into use - Housing Act 1985.
3 Development or Regeneration - Town & Country Planning Act 1990.
4 Local road schemes - Highways Act 1980.

Re: House Demolished
As I stated in another forum my mothers house was "compulsory purchased". The site is now part of a Tesco carpark. She got site value only. £60 in those days. The saving grace is that she was rehoused in a newtown house albeit 30 miles away which left her with a daily commute of that distance. So,as you say, its not only in Spain.

Re: House Demolished
I don't think a house would have been allowed to actually finished and sold to an unsuspecting buyer in the UK. the developer would have been stopped before then. The UK does not have such a system as Spain it couldn't happen. As for compulsory purchase this seems to be about 3000 euros in the campo!
I do agree with Lee re. crime etc. in Spain. Many think its not so bad because they do not read spanish or watch spanish TV. Except for the language you would not know the difference between the UK and Spanish news.
I don't think the people have been re-housed? They were given a flat for the weekend.

Re: House Demolished
Agreed,an actual house probably wouldnt be allowed to be finished in th UK,hence my statement,"main house".
Crime rate is approx same in Spain as Uk.
Ref to being re-housed was for the poster who stated is mothers house had been CP'd,and she was re-housed.
A lot if these properties(althiough not all) where built some time ago when enforcment was a lot more lax in Spain

Re: House Demolished
You got stats to prove that?
If so, its very worrying, bearing in mind more or less that the UK land mass is half of Spain, but Spains official population is 20 million less, albeit probably more clumped together
As regards the OP, this was about a legal home approved by the town hall .... not one of the illegally built ones. Are you aware then of non brits having their houses ripped apart under these same circumstances?

Re: House Demolished
Do have stats to prove it,posted them last year on another thread, will try to find them.
Re legal house demolished.I assume you mean under the loophole in the LUV law thats being exploited, yes there are a lot of people affected by exploitation of this loophole, and not all are British, this law was not specifically put on the statute books to target Brits,if the government wanted Brits out there are a wide range of measures that could be taken, this is not a case of Johny Foreigner picking on Brits!

Reading the "Daily Mail" today at least four more British couples face their villa's bulldozed after officials said that the property's are illegal. It was said yesterday by officials that ten villa's in the area were going to be demolished,at least four belonging to the British, others are German,Swedish and Spanish owned.

Re: House Demolished
VERA area is not far from the beautiful Cabo de Gato coastline which is a Natural park. Within this area on the Vera side of the park a massive hotel was built on a beach called El Algarrobico. The local mayor at the nearby town of Carboneras wanted the hotel built and had given the go ahead. It would give employment and opportunities for the people nearby who could scooter to work. The Junta had been involved with the planning stages and all was set to get on with the build. A lot of money, millions of Euros, has now been spent but the innards are unfinished. The entire edifice can be seen from the coast road and as it is painted white, it is difficult to ignore. The local defenders of the natural park denounced it and managed to get the support of Greenpeace (for goodness sake why Greenpeace !) and sure enough it was declared illegal by the Junta of Andalucia as it was built in the wrong zone. Manuel Chaves apparently said it would be dynamited to the ground. Blown up. presumably following the flavour of the PSOE month at the time and ever watchful of Madrid Centre and the spectre of the puppet master pulling the environmental strings.
Well according to a report in the news letter of the Cabo de Gato Ecologists, the Junta has re zoned the area and the hotel is reprieved. So a redrawing of the maps has made the entire story a happy one for the developers but not for the Ecologists.
if the hotel had been dynamited then one would imagine that the Junta would need to find many millions of Euros to compensate the developers. or so they say. So in this case the Juntas JCB and Ball & chain was not needed. And the dynamite is stored safely for another day.
The Ecologists have kindly provided the new zoning maps on this;
http://www.cabodegata.net/esultimasxa.html
I would propose that the Priors and all the others who see their villas demolished in this area, be rehoused and given a suite of rooms in this hotel in perpetuity. Naturally room service would be extra. let's hope the guy in the Junta who gave the order will be able to support this plan.
