Hotmail to Outlook on Smartphone

No problems on computer but I have just lost hotmail on my android Samsung phone and although it says that Outlook has downloaded all I get is a blank screen and then Network error (the network is temporarily unavailable) - anyone else had this?

Not that specific problem, but "Hotmail" "Live.com" "Outlook" is full of problems at the moment. I don't use it, but several friends do, and it's causing a them lot of varying grief - losing contact lists, mails not being delivered, errors, etc.

Microsoft is working to "integrate", so that it's more convenient to use Microsoft services exclusively, and making it more complicated to use other services.

Tis a bit of a mess I find.
My moto is "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Simple operations that previously required one simple and very obvious click now take two or three providing you know which way to go.

No doubt it won't be a problem for the whizz kids and may well have certain benefits, though mostly to the site provider I'm inclined to think.

For old codgers like me who even struggle with the basics I find it's an unnecessary pain in the arse.

Hi

I have just downloaded the outlook app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - I was about to log-in on my computer and on the left it said "Get the new Outlook app for your Smartphone".

If your computer is set to automatically log you in - you will need to logout to see the message BUT make sure you can remember your password before you log out

Tried it and it works well for me

Well Dave it isn´t a problem getting the App but it just won´t verify. Found a load of other people with different smartphones who have the same problem and Microsoft aren´t doing anything about it.

youse lot have got me worried, I lost my Samsung 2550 (but managed to get the number and money back on new chip from Movistar) and have been getting by with an old Nokia.
Anyway was going to take advantage of a Mini 2 special offer, but if there are going to be these problems ..........

is it Outlook or the Android that's causing the problem ??

I find it better to access hotmail via their website.

I only open urgent e mails / those I want to read and deal with the rest when I am on my PC.

I think it is Outlook but it seems okay for some but not for others. I suspect that my phone being somewhat older is the problem. But I haven´t a lot of hair left where I have torn it out.

A friend got me working yesterday morning via the email app already programmed on the phone but then that stopped working too!

I believe that to some extent it is possible to get the latest upgrade to the OS.
considering the 2550 was only on the market 2 years and the Mini 2 is only a year old and already being discontinued they will be superceeding new phones before the product release docs have even been printed :(

some people may wonder why I tend to keep to some older tecky products, but I am having to fight my way through a Java virus problem on my desktop, continually getting updates on this and that leaves me bemused letalone the computer.

since 3rd April 2013

should have been seamless, but it will be blamed on "old OS" because someone saved a $ not making it backwardly compatible.

:)Well as a technophobe, who doesn't really like Microsift complicated products, on my new gadgets (Acer netbook and Nexus 7 tablet) I have put on Chrome as my browser, Incredimail to substitute Outlook Express on the netbook, and Gmail on the android tablet. Painless and seamless.

I too hate messing with things but I am finding Outlook hopeless since they took over my Hotmail. Can I change to something else without having to change my e-mail address? This is on a computer not a phone.

There are plenty of "free" mail systems. And most are easy and actually work. If you have internet, then you probably get a free email address with it. Gmail is fully integrated on any android device. All free.

I think you can use "outlook" (hotmail) with mail programs like thunderbird (very good, easy and also free), which would allow you to keep your email address and avoid using their awful web interface.

I have a gmail address too but don´t really use it. I have had my hotmail address for ever and would like to keep it just in case an old friend should remember me and get in touch.

Is it easy to upgrade to 2.3 on my phone? Or am I likely to bugger the whole thing up?
