:confused: Hi folks what does anybody know about the Hondo Valley and surrounding towns Aspe etc

A lot of the towns around there are quite high above sea level, so can be much colder than nearer the coast.

Have a look at this site http://www.inm.es/web/infmet/predi/locali/VAA.html

You can get local forecasts for even the smallest of towns as well as height above sea level.

Just back from my second visit to Hondon area. Absolutely fantastic area it is. Hondon De Las Nieves is a lovely village and locals are very nice. Never did get to Aspe or Elche though. I would assume being big towns/cities they are much like everywhere else of that scale.

Hondon De Las Nieves translates as Hondon of the snows, so that gives you some idea of winter weather, quite a bit colder than the coast, which isn't that far away. Has been covered on some of the buying houses abraod programmes as they like to go for these smaller places.

Not quite the case, there has been snow here, but the village was named after the virgen of the snow, and local folklore says it is because one of the villagers a few hundred years ago saw the virgen during one of the infrequent snow falls, It can be colder at night, and during Jan/early FEb, the weather can get to freezing at night,but the days are usually bright and sunny,

Do a search of all threads on this Forum as Hondon comes up regularly as an info request.

New Access roads from Fortuna/Aspe have made the valley very accessible to Alicante and Murcia city/airports and it is now very popular with Expats with a large Brit population.

There is a thread entitled 'Anyone here from Hondon', which you may find useful. There are a few of us who are either living in/have bought houses in the Hondon area, and there is also the urbanization 'Oasis', with many houses still being built. The Oasis development is about 2km from Hondon de las Nieves. There are two Hondons; Hondon de las Nieves and Hondon de los Frailes, both about 3km apart. Both villages are lovely, traditional Spanish villages, but with a growing expat population. Solarwhizz is quite correct about the origin of the name, and snow is quite unlikely, although it did snow 6 years ago, but then it snowed in many other places at that time! We always find the weather to be pretty good - check out the Google weather site; Elche (the nearest large city) is predicted to be 64F today, and Denia (near the coast) is predicted to be 67. We often find Elche to be a couple of degrees less than Denia/Gata de Gorgos area. Elche is known as the City of Palms for its proliferation of palm trees, many of which are in a huge park which is lovely to stroll through. All amenities there, although I'm not so familiar with Aspe.
