Home schooling? Well, that is still your choice, however you rationalise it or no matter what the benefit drawback ratio. I for one am pleased that people still can make choices for themselves without having to consult some bureaucrat to decide for them. And frankly, I'm a bit surprised by the backlash.

Having said that, whatever your motivations, I reckon its a bit like many other things in life. You can build your own house, you can build your own car, you can generate you own energy, you could invent your own light bulbs and phones...

But there are organisations and individuals who have a great deal of experience in such things, and will no doubt do a far better job at it than one lone (presumably idealistic) individual. Nothing is perfect, but some things are better than others.

Now, in the event that your interests are to shield your children from some of the world's evils, it's probably worth considering that the world will still exist when they grow up. They say that making mistakes is how humans learn, and whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

Actually it isn't just "they" who say that, but Frederich Nietzsche who came up with the saying.

There are sometimes reasons for homeschooling, but a general paranoia about "forced learning" and "conformity" is wide of the mark. Especially considering how much the approach to teaching and learning has changed in the last few decades.

This thread has gone as far as it is going to go.

The OP asked a simple question, which has not yet received an answer, just different opinions on schooling, or lack of it, which was not the question.

I am closing the thread.
