Scot, why don't you dazzle us with some more Latin? Sir, It is with much regret, that I announce my dissapointment. I expected something more profound from someone as educated as yourself. Not everyone who leaves the UK or questions conventional schooling is a criminal by the way. .....
I think Scot was alluding to the fact that many people seek to leave the UK to move to another country because there are "too many immigrants" in the UK.

Keeping your children away from school is criminal, at least in some of the more sensible jurisdictions on Planet Earth. You might as well go to the Guardia Civil on arrival and announce, "Look, I have come here to make trouble. What are you going to do about it ?"

Oh, and that's going to be different in mallorca? Unless you live in the outback (my preference, actually) every 3rd person is an "immigrant".. North / East Europeans, North Africans, South Americans...

There you go. Spain is full of "foreigners" who haven't the common decency to learn to speak proper English. And they all drive on the wrong side of the road. Very dangerous.

I think Pulaski and EMR were pointing out the absurdity of those who emigrate to escape from migrants. Or Fluoride in the drinking water. Or vaccinations. Or the NHS. Or the dangers of Alien Abductions. The world is full of such kooks. Many of them cannot even read Latin.

What Scot said. ..... Immigrating to another country because there are "too many immigrants in the UK" isn't just daft, it is the worst sort of hypocrisy.

I've just noticed this little detail.
In which case, where's the problem? She'll be able to communicate and make friends with your Spanish neighbours' children from the start, join their out-of-school clubs and activities, be invited to their birthday parties..... That's socialising.
Like me, others maybe didn't notice that your daughter speaks Spanish and thought that you'd be teaching her in English, but if teaching her the Spanish Curriculum in Spanish isn't a problem for you, and if she has a lot of local Spanish friends for a social life, then there's no real problem.
And it would be a minor detail if you don't find many expats on the spot with the same philosophy.

Pulaski, amigo, you have made it look like I am a racist. I am planning on moving to Mallorca because it happens to be considerably warmer and less wet than the UK. I never mentioned immigrants. As far as immigrants are concerned, who is a real british person anyway? Someone who can trace their family back to the Roman conquest 43 AD? Wouldn't that make them Roman? and is that why Scot is talking in Latin? Personally, I don't beleive in identifying people by the imaginary borders of the countries they inhabit. The concept of, or belief rather, in borders is the kind of nonsense they teach at school. Please forgive me for having the audacity to speak against school. Scot you better look up some swear words in Latin.

Do you have any examples of quotes from someone who attended school since 1900, because I am fairly certain that the overall "school experience" has improved since mid-Victorian times.

I provided some context/ interpretation (which may or may not have been correct) to a post Scot made, and then there was a slight sidetrack in the thread where several people made some generalities about some of the people we see here on BE, without ever linking the comments back to you specifically, but hey, if the cap fits, who am I to stop you wearing it?

I do not see any quotes from Bill Gates and his contemporaries.
I would like to see how home schoolers and those who want to live off the grid and from the efforts of others would manage without the advantages the education system gave to those who provide them with the resources and technology they need to live their lifestyle of choice.

Well how do all the tribes of the Amazon rainforest manage then? How does every other species on the planet manage to get by without mortgages and solar panels and Bill Gates? Isn't it strange how Ray Mears and Bear Grylls can become so famous for going into nature and proving to television audiences that they can survive for a few days? What happens if your country is invaded and your electricity is cut off and the supermarkets close? Will David Cameron come and save you? will the knowledge you so proudly aquired at school save you?
