I am assuming it is in the Santander area, it would have been a great help to put this so people in the specific area would be more likely to look, especially if it was in the header. Sorry but we are much to far awy to be of nay hlep, but I hope you manage to find homes for them, albeit temporary homes. Are there no other rescue homes in the area that could take them?

Hi Mike

I note your suggestion and will amend the heading. I have contacted as many Spanish based welfare organisations that I can find, but I am using as many avenues as possible to try and find homes for these dogs.

thanks

I thought Ciudad Real was south of Madrid, not Santander?

There is an animal shelter near Ayamonte that rehouses almost all of its dogs to Germany and the Netherlands, so I don't see why this needs to be restricted to the immediate vecinity only. It might sound a bit odd, but you can pick your dog off the web page and then there are specialist courier services that will "mail" your dog to you almost anywhere in the world.

Ideally it would be nice to meet the dog first, but you never know.

hello there - I am simply relaying info from an email I received. I have just gone on mapquest.com to check location and yes you are right, just south of Madrid. The web site shows Santander which is where the confusion lay.

Please do not post emails, as it breaches copyright regs.

>>

They are looking for people that could adopt or even receive them temporarily in house a few weeks while they find another place to open a new protective , also they hope that some owner of another protective could receive them permanently o temporarily .

Protective was founded by Rosary, a lover of the animals and ,she receives help of Mayte and Merche. I facilitate telephones to you for more information,:

>> rosary: 645 88 33 06> Mayte: 616 59 89 57> Merche: 619 92 56 01>

and you do not forget to visit the page

www.animalhelp.es/

these dogs have fixed date of their death for October 30,> please comment on it to anyone who should be thinking of adopting a dog.

I know a guy in Ayamonte who rehomes dogs but he is unwell and spending time in Germany so unable to assist.

There's a dog home in La Cala near Fuengirola (Malaga) called ACE. www.ace-charity.org I got my dog there a couple of years ago. I'm going to be taking another one shortly also. I've been told by the rescue centres that a number of dogs that are abandoned are by Brits who don't want to take them back to the UK. Horror stories include dogs being left in appartment by them after they have left. They have approximately 150 dogs to home. Many do get relocated to other parts of Europe, ie Germany, Belgium, Holland.

There is another charity called Triple A, but I have heard that some of the money doesn't get to the animals and the animals are often destroyed when they could be looked after longer, it is rumoured that the person running it keeps the money for themselves. But that is from people who have worked there and there is no substantial proof. But I drive past it everyday and one moment it it is full of dogs the next it is empty, so maybe it could be true.

I personally prefer ACE as the it is self funded and the people who run it are often dipping into their own saving to help the animals.

For any Brits who have returned to the UK and have abandoned pets behind because they haven't got a passport for them, you should be ashamed of yourself and I hope you get some dreadful disease and die a slow and painful death....like many of these animals do. Karma what goes around comes around....

Thanks Mercedes. I share your sentiments, would these heartless owners leave their children behind to die of starvation if their passport was not ready? what is the difference.

End of last year some people moved out of their house just up the road, leaving 2 Japanese Akitas in the garden, they put a notice on, these dogs are being looked after and fed' which they were, but after they started barking and howling through the night, having been on their own for a month, the local urbanisation president contacted the person looking after them and said they had to be moved. No idea just what happened, but they went away, and house went up for sale.

the owners should be shot for doing this. I cannot understand the mentality of these people.

There again, seeing some of the British kids down here, I think I would leave them behind and take the dog.

When I adopted mine, a GS, she was 6 months old, a bag of bones, smelly and someone had either beaten her badly or thrown her out the car. She was so nervous that if you said boo to her she would go and hide. She was terrified of going in the car to the point she was shaking badly. Now she is confident, healthy, fights to get into the car and more importantly happy. I always thought she had a Brit owner to the way she reacted to other Brits especially men, whereas she always liked the Spanish men and other nationalities. Eveyone comments how well behaved she is, but I tell them that 18 months ago, I couldn't take her to a resturant or meet any other dogs as she wanted to get into fights with them. Now she wants to play with other dogs (with the odd exception) and I can enjoy my coffee without having to worry to much.

I think now she would accept another dog into the home, so hopefully she will have a new friend living with us as I'm looking at taking another one in. So we are both going to meet the potential adoptee as obviously she has to like them as much as I do....Hopefully it will work out okay..... I do travel quite a bit, but my one adoptee is used to it and she enjoys the kennels she stays and she loves it when I'm home. It gives me an incentive not to be away so long nowadays. I would recommend adopting one as they do give so much pleasure and if you can make even one dog happy it's worth it. But the trouble is some find having the problems of the dog, more than they want to cope with and try and take them back, but I think with plenty of love, cuddles and building up a trust, the dog does change. Mine did anyway.

sounds as though your dog has now got the loving home she deserves. I have a rescued GS dog myself, Barney - he is now 9 years old. I contacted the GS rescue regarding the dogs in Spain as they have helped rescue dogs there and brought them back to the UK to be adopted - they are going to see what they can do.

On another positive note - I have just had an email to say that the dogs home will have a little while longer before it is closed, and some of the dogs are now being rehomed with new owners. Lets hope they are all found kind caring owners to give them a new lease of life.

You might want to contact some of the others in the other countries in Europe as it is often easier to get the dogs into their countries alot easier than in the UK, especially if there is a tight time frame.
