They don't fancy the belt buster all day English with 10 rashers and 4 eggs
They eat at home and can only afford simple fare like grilled fish nice crisp salad with olive oil/lemon dressing or a few slices of Jamón Iberico de Bellota with fresh bread and olives no wonder they live so long...... but hey in Business you have to take the odd gamble with the investors money as my old uncle Lawrence Fishburn-Goldberg would say already.
Peter Stringfellow is a northern muppet, and a business man with numerous failures in many worldwide cities inc new york and Miami where at least one club filed for bankruptcy, he is hardly worthy of any respect in a business world for me and therefore you can not really make that comparison to M&D's venture.

Maybe M&D dont want to make bundles of cash, just a life away from here is all they want !

Andy...It was tongue in cheek if you read the post a little more closely.

I think the OP's have done all the research they can - every business is a gamble, but they have the experience to see this through. they know from experience what hours they'll need to spend, how tough its going to be, and i say fair do's to them - if you cant gamble in life, you may as well sit at home, with your nice 9-5 job and look forward to your retirement (if you're lucky enough to have a decent pension when that happens)
we'll all made sacrifices to move to spain, i often wonder if i should have stuck out that old crappy job back home, but only when times are tough......

the main problem with the brit's 'pour your money down a drain syndrome' is that these types have done very little or no research before buying, and a large majority have never even set foot on the other side of a bar or restaurant in their lives. my dad was in the drinks trade for 40 years, i got my first jobs in the trade, am i still involved? hell no, i much prefer to do my socialising on the punters side of the pumps!!
the OP's have experience, and the balls to try it, so i wish them luck.

Only just seen this good move IMO, stayed clear of the main resorts. Long as your surrounded by apartments and houses etc you will do ok. All my local bars are busy now and i am only a short drive up the road. Dona Lola is always busy not sure on Calahonda as never go up there, La Cala also seems busy not far away either.

Well i will be a new customer for you both.

Good luck and ignore the idiots, probably have no idea and never have the you know what to do anything similar.

Can my bulldog come in with me ?

No idea is it not enough to know that most places around there are empty! and they close down every year only to get some sucker start up again. Surrounded mainly by private villas like my Uncles, mainly elderly tend to to eat out on the beach at lunchtime and stay in at night. It aint Calahonda (not that many of those are doing anything either!)

It is my opinion from living local and being out and about most evenings etc, i see with my own eyes, not on hear say etc. All my locals were chocker last night and i am only a short distance up the road. No pub has changed hands near me for a long time, yet go into the resorts and it is constant.

Fingers crossed for them anyway.

Keep my fingers crossed for them too. Hope we get some feedback from them.

John you may live just a few miles away from Elviria but it is totally different from where you live regarding people's social habits.

some good answers on this subject i suggest you do a considerable amount more work before commiting yourself to running a bar you need to do alot more investigation into its viability and how successful it is going to be alot of people on here like me do not want to see you get your fingers burnt please proceed with great caution and take considerable time in coming to a decision one of the best examples of bar/ cafe business not doing so well is the amount of them that are for sale in the classifieds of many english speaking newspapers which i might suggest indicates something is not all as it seems
