Smile Hi Newbie to the site

Hi there
Were looking to move over to spain and are looking at different areas but hoping to find a good school does anyone know if there are any nice English teaching schools beside alfaz del pi? Were also looking at the javea area.

As a mum of 2 kids aged 8 I am looking for any advise on good areas for family's and I also dont want to be stuck in the middle on nowhere as hubby works away 4 weeks at a time.

Lived before abroad and felt totally isolated.... So I would like somewhere with a good community spirit.

Any advise any one can give I would be greatful for

As Concierges for the Spanish section of BE we would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Notice that you actually joined a year ago and asked a similar question out of curiosity can we ask what stopped you moving at that stage?

Please let us know if you need any further help.

Hi and thanks for welcoming me yes last year that was when we were in Tenerife and unfortunately we decided to move back to Scotland as my children just couldn't get used to the school and I felt very isolated there. Also my mum fell ill and my knee jerk reaction resulted in us moving back! However we were over to Alicante in August of this year and really liked the area But I've learned from previous mistakes and know that it takes a settling in period. So hopefully I can speak with people in the area's I'm looking at and hopefully all will go smoothly this time I would like to find an area where there are other Brits around so me & the children can have a social life.

Thanks again for the welcome and if you can offer any advise on areas where I wont feel isolated I'd be greatful

Welcome.

Why English teaching schools?

Your children would benefit more, given their ages, if they were in a good state school. Especially if this is a more permanent move and not just a 'fleeting visit'.

Hope you did not think that I was just being plain nosey about your move but any information that you give us such as this helps to make sure that you receive the best advice. Sorry to hear that you went back due to illness in the family and hope that things are better now.

Settling in takes everyone a different length of time, depends on what type of person you are, what you enjoy and of course how easily you as a person adapt to different situations. Some people get very stressed out about the paperwork and some overcome it without a blink.

You have mentioned the Javea area and I am sure that Lynnxa will be along soon to advise you on the school situation and other aspects of living there. She has been here some time now and has a great deal of insight regarding the difficulties that people face when they move with children. What in particular made it difficult for your children to settle into the school?

Good luck with your research.

Awh thank you so much and no i didnt think you were being nosey
Rosemary it was my mum that was ill she's diabetic and had her leg amputated and she wasn't healing but happy to say she's fine now Thank you x

It would be lovely to speak with other families in that area maybe put my mind at rest I'm excited but after the bad experience we had in Tenerife I just want everything to be good for the kids. The main problem was that the school was very old fashioned and strict however the education was a good standard but I felt that some of the teachers were quite un kind and not giving good encouragement to some children. I also found that that was the only way I was socialising was with the school mum's and some of them were not very nice and felt threatened by new people coming to the school all very childish to be honest. But it was just sad for the kids also they didn't get much play time etc and the school didnt have a dinning hall just bad conditions.... Although the education was far better than here in the uk. I found that none of the children really socialised outside of school which again lead to lonlieness for me and the kids when hubby was away for 4 weeks.

Thanks again for your help I appreciate it!!!
Were hoping to get over this month for a look around some villas but I'm still waiting on an agent to call me!!!!

Speak again soon & thankyou

So glad that your mum is better now.

I think that quite often it is at the school gates that many mums (where ever they live) meet and make friends and if this was a bad experience for you it can colour other aspects of your life too.
