Hi,welcome aboard.
Don't come across too many from the Canaries on here, partly I think because most of the islands have their own dedicated forums.
I spent some time there a few years back when I was based on Tenerife.
Must say I still miss the Canarian climate quite a bit, so much better than the mainland.

Also maybe worth looking at the Trip Adviser forum which may be more active on its Gran Canaria section.

The Tenerife forum is extremely busy with loads of info and helpful ppl about, but the other islands are nothing like as active for some reason, possibly due to fewer Brits living on them than TF.

If you just want to meet locals, what's wrong with the local boozer ?
You may just be pleasantly surprised.
Surely there must be at least one civilised joint.
They can't all be full of yobs and hooligans and bloody Germans, though it did seem a bit that way last time I was there.

I think that maybe internet groups have mostly disappeared since facebook came along. Search for Gran Canaria pages or groups, like or join them respectively and talk with people.
