hi all another brit after advice!!!!
Hi all as per my title i'm another brit after advice on moving to la linea and working in gibraltar. Have been in touch with a few recruitment agencies but just wondering what the employment is like in general? I spent a year in estepona nearly 14 years ago gosh i feel old lol But have always longed to go back perfect time now for me and my partner as we are selling our house have a bit of money behind us. So the general idea is to pay for somewhere to rent for a year and then we shall see what happens but any advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

My hubby works in Gib. but we choose to live in Sotogrande, about 20-30 min's from the border, he takes a scooter across. I can't think of many ex-pats who would choose to live in La Linea, in fact... dunno any. We all seem to live in Soto. Alcaidesa, Estepona, Duquesa or actually in Gib. Some live in Gib midweek and have a pad in Spain for the weekends. Have you been to La Linea, it ain't too pretty, think I'd rather live in Gib. (Not meaning to offend any La Lineans out there).

No haven't been to la linea hopefully will be out to vist next month to see whats what. Hopefully want to move by the end of Aug beginning of Sept just been browsigt the net on schools. Seems to be from what i got from recruitment agencies that there seems to be a bit of a call for customer service advisors in Gib thats where i come in with 10 years experience. But not in a rush straight away to find a job so La linea from what i gather seems to be not a very nice area not wishing to offend anyone. I lived in Estepona 14 years ago i loved the town then suppose it has changed a bit since i was there. If i'm gonna do this i want to do it properly i know thats easier said than done. So if i can ask what do most people do for employment???

My husbands job is a bit of a one-off, so he's not a good example, but most of the European ex-pats that we know from the school seem to be employed either in banking or the gambling industry (which employs across the board; IT professionals, graphic designers, accountants, marketing, etc.) But equally Gib's a mini-city so I guess you'll need to trawl the employment websites to get a fuller picture of what's out there.
What I've heard on education in Gibraltar is very positive, plus apparently your kids will get a university grant for further study in the UK. The downside to living in Spain is the commute (although made easier by the scooter) and the school fees. Although fees are not an issue if you'll be using Gib. schools or Spanish goverment schools. We had to go international, as we felt our oldest was past the point of natural assimilation into Spanish school.
Crazy weather, huh (home is Swansea for us), mind you, it's chucking it down here and the skies are dark. That said, most other days are beauties.
