Help! Washing machine problems

I hope someone will be able to help me. We have a BALAY ELECTRONIC TS 6008 washing machine, which came with the new villa we finally purchased 18 months ago. (After waiting several years for it to be built!) Unfortunately we have only just had electricity connected so by the time we got round to trying it out, the guarantee had expired.

The machine only seems to operate on the 40 degree cycle, but misses out the rinse cycle. It just spins to get rid of the soapy water then agitates the drum as if it is rinsing, but no water enters (and so completely ignores the fabric softener loaded into the drawer). It then does the final spin before coming to a stop. I have got round this by either taking the washing out and rinsing it separately and adding softener, then putting it back on a spin cycle, or else re-setting it to the beginning of the 40 degree cycle and pouring the softener into the drawer when the water enters the drum for the 'wash' part of the cylce. I then stop it mid-cycle and put it on to the 'spin' setting. As you can imagine, this is very tedious! :frown:

We have tried other cycles (30 degrees, cold, extra rinse, etc) but NO WATER at all enters the drum - there's just a loud 'hum' and no action :(

Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, any ideas as to how to get it working properly would be greatly appreciated. Failing that, maybe you know of a trusted washing machine engineer on CE? :fingerscrossed:

No idea really but will hazard a guess, is it only connected to one source of water ? ie cold fill only ?

I agree check the plumbing to it first. It sounds like it is trying to take in water but there isn't any connected. Is there a little tap turned off somewhere. If the washer has hot and cold fill and you only have cold available you can get round this by plumbing the two together then to the cold incoming pipe/tap. Also look for a trapped hose.

Re: Help! Washing machine problems

Try fitting a Y shaped connector to your tap and then two hoses from this to the machine if it has two inlets.
We did this with our Bosch and have had no problems.

Can't get an english version of the manual, but the diagrams in the Spanish version suggest a single water connection.
Figure 7 in the diagram suggests checking for coins etc by unscrewing the plug at the bottom rear. Figure 8 and 9 seem to suggest filling the connection pipe with water prior to connecting to the machine - presumably to remove any air locks.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I am pretty sure it just has a cold supply, but will get it checked out and hopefully we can get it sorted. Thank you all once again. :)

You may be able to download an English version of the manual if Balay sell to the USA on the USA website.

Hello again - just to let you know we have checked the plumbing and it looks as though we will need the Y fitting as there are two water inlets on the washing machine, but only one is connected to the water supply. (Checked the installation sheet and luckily there are illustrations to show what is needed if just a cold water supply available). Another little job to add to the list! Thank you all once again - you never let us down

Glad you now know what is wrong and it isn't the machine. What about calling the kitchen fitter back to put it right?

All our washing machines (in the house and in rental flats) are dual fill yet are only connected to the cold supply. They all work fine. So, unless your water pressure is low, I doubt this is the problem.

I do hope it is though as this is the cheaper solution.

Thanks Olivia - unfortunately the developer/builder who installed the kitchen went out of business some time ago, so no chance of that unfortunately.

Re: Help! Washing machine problems

I suspect the connection is to the hot supply not the cold. Try switching and if that is the case get a 'Y' connector.

If it has two water inlets, but you are using only one, connected to the hot water supply, that would give you what you are experiencing. It would take hot water in for the initial wash but then try to bring cold in for the rinses.
