help - TV going into standby!!!

Can anyone help here - especially 'The Guy' ! :)

Our TV has started to go into standby mode for no apparent reason and when it does we can't get a satellite signal again until the following morning!!!!! ie we take the plug out and in the morning it comes on again.

Now - it just goes off after only a short time - we listened to the radio for only an hour, then later tried to turn the TV on but got the message - no signal, unplug box and leave for 5 mins - but no good.

OH has gone into control setting & turned off standby - but it's still happening

Please help - missed 2 nights Corry already

I think your television is broken.

Try to connect another one.

Is it a Sky+ box? The 5 minute message is a new thing under the white Sky card. Usually just means the signal level is low. Where are you? How big is the dish? And what ITV region are you trying to watch Corrie on? ITV 1 London is a particularly poor signal lately. Also maybe the dish needs alignment or there is another signal level related issue.

I assume you don't mean that the TV is going into standby but the Sky receiver box?

Re: help - TV going into standby!!!

Like others I assume you mean the SKy box is going into Standby mode and not the TV, as sone TVs also show a No Signal message.

If it is the Sky box then:
1) first check to make sure your Autostandby feature is tunred off.

2) the new message, as TA has said, indicates the box is getting a weak signal - andpops up the message - you can just change to Sky NEws 501 and return back to the channel you were watching - you dont alway s have to unplug and reboot the box....

3) does it happen at random times during the day or only at night watching the weaker BBC and ITV channels? It is all channel this happens or only a few?

4) if you have a pace 430, then it is likely you are suffering from a problem with the software - software version 3.8.8 ha been causing problems for a few weeks now - check you software by services, 4, 5 - bottom line.

You can get the box to revert back to the previous last good software:
http://satandpcguy.com/forum/pace-sk...dby-t2036.html
Make sure you have signal strength and quality on frequency 11778 - normally you will if you can hear the menu systems background music playing (if you have not turned it off!)
Unplug the box from the power
Press hand hold the BACKUP button on the box.
Reapply the power - keeping the button pressed.
After a few seconds the lights on the box will glow and a software messagw MAY appear on the screen
Let go of the button
The box will download the stable software -
Once the box reboots check that your software has reverted back to 3.7.6.

Again, this can only be done if you are getting a good signal on the default transponder frequency 11778 - you can hear the backgound music, or you can get programme information for the next few days - this signal is strongest in the morning.

Hope this help.

Corrie was cancelled last nite due to its story line and the happenings in Cumbria.

Thank you all - yes, I did mean the sky box.

We have to go out shortly so will try this later & let you know what happens.

So sad about Cumbria - it was just terrible!!!

Well -we're still having problems!

What's been happening is it goes into standby although the automatic standby is turned off - then that's it for the remainder of the day until the following morning - but now it went into standby yesterday afternoon and still hasn't come back!

We're not getting any background music or listings - it just says 'searching for listings - please wait' and then 'no satellite signal being received - unplug box for five minutes' ................ that has no effect at all!

We've gone into signal test and this is what we see

Signal Strength ....................................... box is blank
Signal Quality .......................................... box is blank
Lock Indicator .......................................... Not Locked
Network ID .............................................. 0000
Transport Stream ...................................... 0000

It's also showing that we're on EPG Software Version 3.8.8

The frequency (GHz) is 11.778

Re: help - TV going into standby!!!

Is your box a pace 430N...? Check the sticker on the bottom of the box!

If it is, and your software version is 3.8.8 then it is that conbination that is causing the box to switch off.

So first things first - lets get your channels back.....

The default transponder frequency of 11778 varies during the day - its normally strong in the AM and late at night, and weakest NOW tiime - ie mid afternoon.

It is this frequency that is shown on the signal test screen - and why you can see no strength or quality on this screen but you can still receive channels!

So to boot your box up to get channels back, unplug the box from the power, wait for 15 seconds, reapply the power, and go throught the process to help boot the box up using a different frequency:

http://www.satandpcguy.com/Site/sky_...anca_spain.php

That should get you channels back.

(Once you have signal and channels back it makes no difference what frequency you have as your default transponder, as the box will use whichever of the 90-plus frequencies it needs to use for the channels you select!)

Then, to change the software in the box to the previous version (if your box is a PACE 430!) then do the process I posted above on the 3rd.
But it can only be done if youa re getting the 11778 frequency and getting the back gorund music - ie when the 11778 frequency is strong - like first thing in the morning and late at night. If done at a time when 11778 is not availabl then no software will be downloaded!

(Reception of this frequency is a good indication of if the installation of your dish is good or not...)

Re: help - TV going into standby!!!

Thanks for getting back so swiftly :)

Yes it is a 430N - so we'll follow the instructions on your site - do we need to wait for a strong signal to do this - or can we just do it anyway?

If you mean to update the software i did say......

But it can only be done if youa re getting the 11778 frequency and getting the back ground music - ie when the 11778 frequency is strong - like first thing in the morning and late at night. If done at a time when 11778 is not available then no software will be downloaded!

If you mean to help boot the box up and get channels now, you do it at anytime, as you are asking the box to look at a more easily available frequency for the data it needs to function, as opposed to the 11778 frequency which is weak and is stopping the box from booting up as the box cannot access the data it needs on 11778.....

Hi - we went through your instructions twice and unfortunately it hasn't worked - so looks as though we'll have out an engineer :( (Will try again in the morning first!)

Thanks for all your help - as long as we get our TV back in time for the World Cup!!!!!!
