Re: Help - is it possible to buy Radweld out here?
Hi all - thanks for all that - just read it all out to OH.
It is a Honda as it happens - a CRV - and there is a leak, but not sure just where it's coming from, I suppose it needs to go up on ramps. He's just put in some stuff he got from a petrol station called 'Tapa Fugas Radiador' - but I suppose if it's a hose leaking it won't have much effect.
We got home from a motorway drive last night & could see steam rising from the bonnet - there was also a very strong smell of curry - which is a bit of a mystery

Actually - we do get frost where we are (just 20 miles inland, but quite high up), it was down to minus 5 a couple of years ago!

Some of these anti-leak additives can gunge up the fine pipework in your radiator and in themselves can eventually cause overheating even after your leak is repaired.

Have just spent some time Googling round the world and most, if not all, parts making up a "Plastic" radiator can be replaced or repaired by a reasonably competent garage with access to a plastic welder.
The plastic tanks can fail routinely after about 4 to 6 years. Replacing a tank can take a competent mechanic about an hour.
I'm sure that if you take your car to your usually efficient garage they will know where to get it done.
NB I was shown how to weld plastic in Berlin so its not a recent innovation.1972.

You are quite right they can.

Dose not happen. ,you seem to be missing the point of garages, they are there to make a living , not save customers a few euros for an unreliable repair , all garages know if they fit a new rad it comes with a gaurantee for at least 12 months , a repair has no guarantee as its a bodge ,
an hours labour in Spain is around 35 euros, a core without headers will only be around 20 to 30 euro cheaper ,obviously the used header you fit wont have any warranty, not a smart move.
Suggest you give up trying to be an armchair mechanic and leave to those who do it for a living

Ok while we are on still on cars
My Astra 1.7td (gm motor) needs a new alternator as its starting to squeak again, bearings were changed about a year back & still good but a wee bit of movement in the shaft can cause contact with the casing at its age. (end float)
Anyway........
Local motor factors via a Spanish account is 270eu for a recon Bosch jobbie, so popped onto ebay.uk and found a supplier who looks quite good & can supply a Bosch copy for 100eu all in (inc postage)
