Default Help with menu translation

We have asked our local bar to provide us with sample menus for a meal when we get married next month but we are having difficulties trying to translate some of the items. Can anyone help with the following please:

1. Foi con mermelada de tomate

2. Ibéricos

3. Vol-au-vent de ensiladilla

4. Delicias orientales de pescado

5. Redondo de tenera

6. Bacalao con conftura de tomate.

7. Redondo Ibérico a la pimienta

8. Montaditos variados

We can manage to translate individual words but can't work out whyat they mean when all together.

What's wrong with pie & chips ????

Many thanks

Seen some of these before.

2. Ibéricos
Usually a selection of chorizo and serrano ham
3. Vol-au-vent de ensiladilla
Vol-au-vents of potato salad
6. Bacalao con conftura de tomate.
Cod with tomato paste
8. Montaditos variados
Various small sandwiches (can be hot or cold) usually served as a tapa around here.

1. Foi con mermelada de tomateNot sure. My guess is Pate made with tomatoes. It may be a vegetarian option, but it also could be "fois" as in "fois gras" - from liver (chicken, goose, or pig)- with tomato "jam" ie. sauce/paste/relish.

2. Ibéricos Cold meat platter of a variety of pork products (eg. jamon serrano, chorizo)

3. Vol-au-vent de ensiladilla Filo/Puff pastry cases filled with a type of potato salad (eg. ensaladilla rusa - potato, carrot, peas, and beetroot for that pinkiness, I think)

4. Delicias orientales de pescado Anything from sushi to tempura! Could also be prawns on toast...spring rolls...

5. Redondo de tenera "Redondo" is the cut of the meat, I believe. Roast veal (young calf), is my guess. If not a roasted meat, it may be casseroled. The bar might serve it like tapas, ie. chunks of meat in a savoury sauce.

6. Bacalao con conftura de tomate. Not sure if this would be a hot or cold dish. Cod with tomato sauce/relish/paste. If served cold, it might be like a terrine. If hot, it might be like a fish (cod) stew (eg. Bacalao al pil pil, without the fire.)Yet again it might be served as chunks of cod in a savoury sauce (tapas style).

7. Redondo Ibérico a la pimientaRoast pork with a pepper sauce (pimienta = pepper as in green/black pepper corns)

8. Montaditos variadosA variety of toppings served on slices of toasted bread. (Perhaps mini bocadillos? Think of "100 montaditos"...

We can manage to translate individual words but can't work out whyat they mean when all together.Ask the chef. Or, why not ask joseantonio1972, & featherbum?

What's wrong with pie & chips ????Nothing! Bangers & mash would make a feast!

Many thanks
Enjoy and best wishes!
Regards,
Carol

Thank you everyone for your replies you have been very helpful. We just have to decide which ones we would like now.

Tony still fancies pie and chips.

A team effort is the best!
How are things in the north?
Did you & Mr Featherbum enjoy any special Basque recipes at your wedding feast?
Best wishes,
Carol

oooh our dinner was to DIE FOR!!!!!! the english guests loved it too which was a relief!!
we had,
foie with some creamy potato-y stuff
king prawns on a bed of lettuce avocado and tomatoes
the most AMAZING hake in the world in some oniony-tomato-y sauce
the best lemon and champagne cocktail ever!
the bigggest most moo-ing steak ever (yummy tho)
a berries cocktail
cake
and a copa. (and a few more after... some drunken pics of me appeared in facebook today lol).

the guests were worried there was even more food coming out lol! but in the basque country is tradition to have 5-6-7 course meals at weddings etc.

things are great here thanks, but its getting chilly already!! only 14-15 degrees at night, brrrr!! still getting settled, taking it eaaaasy!

ooops hijacking..!! i'lll shut up now, sorry i get excited about our wedding.

It sounds wonderful, featherbum! Hope your guests realised they were served food by the best chefs in all of Europe?
Now, the wedding cake...was it a fruit cake, or perhaps a mil hojas? (mille feuille, ooh, pardon my French! should have spelt fois gras as foie...or a choux pastry tower (can't think of the name!)

Weather has turned, hasn't it. Up here (Scotland) we've had those temperatures for most of the summer, with rain...Grrr! no Bhurrrr!

Sorry to have gone off topic,CarolandTony!

Regards,
Carol
