HELP!!

I am wondering if anyone could give us some advice.

We are currently in Spain (Benidorm) with our UK car, the UK MOT ran out on the 27th of October 2017 and therefore our UK tax has also now ceased.
We have recently purchased a business here and are about to start trading in a few days, however if the business does not go well in the first couple of weeks we will be leaving to go back to the UK, however we need to go back in this car.

Could anyone advise us the best options cost wise we have to get back to the UK if we have to and also what we should do now with the car as we are assuming we are unable to drive the car here in Spain now as the tax and MOT are no longer valid?

Currently your UK car is illegal in Spain, the only legal way to sort this out is to have the car transported back the the UK, dropped off at an MOT centre, get the MOT done then tax the car, you can then return to Spain. An alternative is to hire a car in Spain for the time, then, if needed, you can return the car to the UK to be made legal. If you drive the car in Spain and are stopped then your car will be impounded and you run a real risk of having it crushed.

I think that your best option, cost wise, would be to fly back to the UK. You can get flights quite cheaply from Alicante. ( see https://www.skyscanner.net/)

Without MOT and/or tax your car is no longer legal in Spain and would have to be trailered back to the UK. There's no legal way of obtaining a MOT in Spain for a UK registered car. The Spanish traffic police have online access to the UK database and can easily verify your cars' legal status. :(

You could try selling it to a car breaker in Spain to offset your flight costs.

It's really unfortunate that your MOT has lapsed, It's the one thing you cannot rectify while in Spain! :(

Edit......Just seen reply above. I agree with comments.

And don't forget that without an MOT your insurance is now invalid

That may not be possible as selling cars to breakers in a country other than where it is registered has been reported here on BE as number of times as not possible, because the breaker has to verify ownership/ that it isn't stolen, and presenting foreign language registration documents us beyond what most breakers are able to understand and process.

I live in Benidorm and if you give us a clue to your future "business" then myself and some friends will visit and (maybe) spend some money 😎

Due to the no advertising rule this would not be possible either on the open forum or via PM´s.

No we can't. We just trust that regular users don't abuse the system. I wouldn't want anyone PMing me advertising their products/businesses. It would piss me off. :) A link in their signature would be interesting and useful though.
