If you are pre retirement, yes. Its up to 2 years, not necessarily 2 years ... depending on your past recent contributions in the UK

It actually depends on when you leave the UK. We paid full NI contributions for 35 years but only got 18 months. When I phoned up to ask about it I was told it was because we had left in June. Still don´t understand the reasoning.

They calculated ours on the last few years contribution levels

It is up to two years and I think the amount of time you get does depend on when you apply.

We left in July/September 2004, but only applied for the E106 in January 2005 and got two full years.

Then my husband was sent an E121 later - they had made a mistake with the E106 in his case and he should have had an E121 (although he is below State Pension age) he is in receipt of Incapacity Benefit and therefore gets treated the same as a pensioner.

When my E106 expired in January 2007 I was able to be covered on the E121 as my husband's dependent, although I too am still below State Retirement age.

Please also note that these (temporary) SIP cards run out every 6 months and have to be renewed.

We're on E106's (which run out next year) but we're having a h*ll of a job renewing them each time!

Also I will be entitled to an E121 in my own right in January 2010 so if they stop my husband's IB after that, he can come on mine as MY dependent until he is 65 i 2014!
