Re: Health Tourism
I suppose its all because the NHS is such a miserly payer that these people have to resort to bribery and corruption to make ends meet.
fairly sure it has been going on for quite some time, ISTR the GP/Practice receive an allowance for all those on their books
funny that the indication is that it is predominately those from the Indian sub-continent. Only a few days ago documentary on Spanish television covering the Indian Independence saying that the Indians wanted independence from Britain, to stand on their own two feet and make their way in the world.
So is it them or us that can't let go ?
were we so bad for India ?
have we not repaid whatever they think we owe them many times over ?
they even see much street cred in having a British passport, the passport to the world !
and they seem to think our "aid" £millions is just a drop in the bucket and not needed !

An awful lot of industry has moved to India from the UK. Many, many jobs in the UK lost because the products could be made in India cheaper due to labour costs.

NTL's Indian call centre is stuffed full of cue cards, they can only go thru the card from start to finish without understanding what they have told you, of course accompanied by the 2-3 secs time delay + another 2-3 secs "thinking time"
talking to a friend at the weekend, he says his company offshored some of their operations but having spent the last 6m UK time ensuring the databases were up to date they now find they drift daily. On complaining a guy in India said "that isnt my job, stop harrassing me, I am reporting you to my manager". Wonder where he got that from

Costa del Sol to become leading health destination
“We are sitting on an untapped goldmine and we don’t even realise it,” said foundation founder Miguel Such. “None of us are motivated by money. We are embarking on this project to bring favour to Malaga."
Yeah right ...

May have flopped a bit though when the Nigerian(?) Presidents wife died having liposuction there Many are travelling to Poland to have operations too.

Re: Health Tourism
Registration with a GP will allow them to receive the same primary NHS care as British citizens.
The guidance, from NHS London, stipulates “nationality is not relevant” to the entitlement for primary care, and states practices can not insist on seeing passports as it could be “discriminatory”.
It summarises: “Immigration status does not affect eligibility to primary care - practices should not enquire about patients immigration status.”

The PP passed a law recently denying medical treatment to unregistered immigrants. They will fine doctors who disobey the law and many doctors are refusing to comply. Seven autonomous communities including Andalucia are defying the law.
This includes unregistered British immigrants too, of course ... as some of you may have already discovered!
Immigrants in Spain lose right to public health care
