Can I open another thread on the subject, this one is more about something else?

You certainly can - it's become a very interesting topic - but it's not about health care.

Contrary to what was stated we always were aware of the differences between being a tourist and residing in a place, being it Spain, Italy, Germany or any other spot in the world.

So when we decide upon a destination we first go there and try to spend a few months and do what locals do. Then we decide if we see ourselves living permanently in that place, with its good and bad parts, or not.

So next year is going to be Italy, possibly for 3-4 months.
Spain is Plan C, but I started the prospects early.

That sounds like a sensible way to approach things, if you’ve got sufficient time. The trouble is, you cannot possibly judge any large country on a three-month visit, to do it properly would take years.

Funnily enough, I tried France and Germany before settling for Spain – I did more than a year in each.

Why did I pick Spain? My proper reply would take hundreds of pages, weather and cheapness is a flippant and easy answer, but it’s much more than that. Also, I found a much cheaper business in Estepona than anything I had seen in Provence or Hamburg.

I wonder what place I would have picked if I had been in your circumstances, merely looking for a place to live with sufficient income to sustain me? California comes to mind, around San Diego, then Florida, South Africa too, or Toronto, where my daughter lives.

Since the OP has now opened a new thread on the subject of Health Care in Spain in the hope that it may stay on topic I am closing this thread.
