I had no idea I could claim it at 60 till somebody told me when i was out here on holiday, I assumed it was 65 for men.
Contacted DWP and got loads of forms to fill in, including back dated payments form, filled them all in and sent them back.
Got conformation letter from one dept saying I would get it then got another letter from a different dept saying i was not elligable as I was not in the UK on so and so date in September of the application year.
So a holiday taken at the wrong time cost me my heating allowance for the rest of my life, not a happy bunny.

You could get Winter Fuel Payment if both the following apply:

you have reached the qualifying age (born on or before 5 July 1950)
you normally live in Great Britain or Northern Ireland on any day in the week of 20–26 September 2010

To have reached the qualifying age for a Winter Fuel Payment between 2010/11 you will need to be born on or before 5 July 1950.

This is because the qualifying age for Winter Fuel Payment is rising in line with the increase in State Pension age from April 2010.

In the future, the Winter Fuel Payment qualifying age will increase from 60 to 65 between 2010 and 2020. Use the calculator below to find out when you will reach the qualifying age.
But you are living in Mijas ?

I will be in 11 days, temporarily in Alhaurhin at present. We are here as longterm tourists until we decide whether to move here permanently. I know we have to declare residency if intending to stay longer than 3 months, and will do so at the appropriate time for us.

I cannot believe you missed out just cos of a holiday, surely not? Thousands of 60 yr olds go on hols in Sept. Something wrong there.

The E106 form is set out in a deliberate ambiguous way so we have been told.

We ticked a box we shouldnt have when we applied before we left the UK and got turned down.

And were told by the issuers that we need not apply again as you only appear to get one stab at it.

So much for all our NI payments.

I had the same experience, I worked full time and paid full stamps even when I could have paid a 4d married womans stamp until after my 60th birthday, however I was honest and told them I was moving to Spain and got refused the WFA as I moved a couple of weeks too early for their qualifying date which was the 3rd week in September
