Thank you for your messages, I am currently on a different planet. As soon as I stop by again I shall be certain to provide a thoughtful reply to these observations.

Many claim there are bigger discounts if you know where to shop in UK. We find similar discounts if you know where to shop in spain.

I remember being told how cheap the factory shop of a white goods manufacturer was, how the workers queued up to use it for the savings
So I got a friend to get me a price - it was cheaper in Argos and delivery was included IIRC.

when buying replacement furniture etc it is best to buy from someone who delivers and takes away the old one - many companies are now doing that, otherwise you have all the hassle of getting it to the dump yourself.

My experience (12 years so not a newbie) is that white goods are much more expensive in Spain. I would probably do the same as EllisG if I was buying a kitchenfull.

If we're replacing furniture or white goods that are still in good usuable condition, we ask around the neighbours if they know anyone who can make use of them. We passed on a gas cooker to the sister of one of them a few weeks ago, and she was glad to have it. Did the same with 2 sofas a couple of years back, and a fridge freezer will soon be looking for a new home. I'd rather someone who might not be able to afford a new one got some use out of them, but obviously I wouldn't offer them anything that was really clapped out.

why would someone go to the effort of taking anything to the dump around here ? hasn't every dumping spot on an urbanizacion got a team of moroccans ready to take anything they can get their hands on...round here they check the dump every 1/2 hour . They took the entire contents of this house inc appliances and all I had to do was dump it on the front lawn

So true, threw out a load of stuff when we moved and they actually helped get it out of the car, they were gitanos though.

marbella ayuntamiento has a number to call and they collect for free.

I know some places where you don't even need to open the front door

They will do it for you, often when no one is at home.
