Default Guest house legal permission (Granada Province)

Hi there fellow expats.

Like so many before me, I am dreaming to open a small guest house in Costa tropical, Granada province.
I intend to live in the house my self, and at the same time rent out 3-4 rooms.

Can anybody give me some advise how to go about getting a legal permission to do so, or if its needed at all to get a permission in this province?

Many thanks
Gitte

The local council, ayuntamiento, in the region you want to open the guest house is the right place to go for all the licences, documentation and similar. You will definitely need a business licence and a fiscal number, fire ceetificates etc etc.
If your Spanish is not up to conversational level well worth talking to a Gestor.

Complicated only in so far as opening any small business, not been involved in this sector more in small industrial companies.

Have you considered buying an existing set-up ? Always people retiring from the sector or trading up, failed to meet their expectations etc etc.

If your Spanish is up to it browse through "Casas Rurales en venta Andalucia".

Locally (Granada province)we have seen success at this, and some spectacular failures. The successful ones bought existing and fully licensed/ compliant businesses where it was almost impossible for the local Town Hall to rock the boat as regards permission for the new owners going forward and there was a (limited) repeat client base for the premises. The failures bought a house basically for themselves and set about converting some of it into a b and b or similar, using a local 'expert'. The second mistake was not involving the Town Hall from the outset, and asking them what was required, i.e. fire regs, cooking facilities, etc etc. They were refused on many points when it came to the crunch, or at least it was prohibitively expensive to comply, so they all ended up back in blighty, broke I am afraid. Don't dream, find out and be realistic, I have seen some dreams demolished here, setting up everything and competing against local Spanish is fraught to say the least. Best of luck, no dreams please, just asking you to FULLY look into it before you commit. The old ex pat saying is ' the easiest way to become a business millionaire in Spain is to come here with two million!'.
