Default To Granada

Hi everyone, me and my husband are moving with our car to Spain from mid-August until December where we will return for Christmas, and then more than likely go back. I'd just like to air my thoughts and see what I am missing.

We will have rental income and I will be working freelance for a UK company. I hope I am right in thinking that for those first 4 months we will not need to declare or inform anything to Spanish authorities. We will continue to pay income tax in the UK..

Thank you

The below link might help. Tax purposes is 183 days in any year, above that you have to complete a tax return.

If you stay for more than 90 days you are obliged to sign onto the Register of EU Foreigners at your local National Police station and prove that you have adequate income to support yourselves and also have private health cover.

That said, most people in your circumstances would not bother. If you do return after Xmas with the intention to stay, then that is probably the best time to sign on.

Yes, tax residents are taxed on their worldwide income and it must all be declared, together with details of any assets anywhere that are worth more than €50k.

The main exception is for UK Government pensions (not the state pension) where, although the pension is not directly taxed, it has to be declared which will affect the tax rate on any other income.

Tax rates are generally higher than the UK and personal allowances are lower.
