Gran Canaria

Hi guys,
Hubby and I are early retired (50y ) and after quite a few holidays there, are thinking of buying a rural property up in the North of Gran Canaria.( we may rent for this coming winter , and possibly some of 2020, to get more of a feel for the areas we think we may want to buy in.) We would be using the property only for the winters and possibly some of the spring....doubt we would be there in the summers but may let family with kids use it . We don't want to be surrounded with the bustle and tourists of the coast in the summers, and really just want to enjoy the weather when it is foul in the UK. We will maintain a family property in UK.
My questions..
.1/ water - do you need permission to install a pool? ….how is water metered/costed..?
2 / extending /altering property ...planning type permissions...difficult ? costly ?
3 / Dogs, if we are going to be there for weeks/months at a time I need to bring whippets....fly from Heathrow ? they have passports, have lived in Australian and Europe and are rabies vaccinated.
Any and all info would be gratefully received, we are in no hurry, we are both able bodied ( so far so good) and reasonably fit, and looking forward to a place with an island view....
many thanks Polly and Si

Re: Gran Canaria

Its good to rent before you buy. Remember that in winter the weather in the North of the island is nowhere near as warm as the southern parts of the island and you get rain.

GC is my favourite part of Spain :)
