Google news banned in Spain again?
Just tried to access google news and get the message that it's not available in Spain.
We had this problem before a few yrs ago but it was short lived.
Is there an easy way around this ban without paying for a VPN?

Go to google.co.uk, enter your news search in the search box (either in English or in Spanish), click on the News tab.

Thanks for the reply, but what I mean is that I just like to go to google news and scroll through the articles until I see something of interest. This is it seems is no longer possible from Spain

This is the message I get on this laptop
Google News in Spain
We regret that due to the Spanish law, Spanish publishers aren't featured in Google News and Google News is closed in Spain. We understand that readers like you may be disappointed, and we want to share the reasons behind this decision.
What's Google News?
Google News is a new reading app for Android, iOS, and the web that enables users to discover more of the content they love.Content in Google News comes from pulling feeds and URLs publishers provide to us through the Publisher Center and from crawling the web. Google News creates real value for these publications by driving people to their websites, which in turn can generate advertising revenue.
What are the reasons behind this decision?
Legislation in Spain requires every Spanish publication to charge services like Google News for showing even the smallest snippet from their publications, whether they want to or not. This approach is not sustainable for Google News.

Re: Google news banned in Spain again?
It's not Google News per se, it's only that it's no longer scraping stories from Spainish publications to offer to readers.
Google's choice to withdraw because they refuse to pay for using the material from which they benefit through their own advertising, it's not a ban by Spain.
It's a replay of what happened in Australia recently but there they came to an agreement and are now paying.

If it's the app and it's up to date and it still doesn't work, you could try an alternative:

Was you using the Android app? I've just reinstalled the Google news app on my phone and it still works ok.

It's looking more and more like you can't do much at all without a smart phone + apps these days.
Is there only me who refuses to join it with it all?
I have got round the google news problem by using a free VPN.

Well if you want modern messaging, online banking (virtually compulsory), online shopping, news etc yes you need a smart device. The choice and type are yours.
Personally, I find a 90€ smartphone is adequate for my needs and does all I need to do.
As a small aside I have now opted out of the Windows rigmarole and happily using a Chromebook which IMO is far superior and much less of an overhead and reduced aggravation.

"I wouldn't give up just yet, other countries (or rather companies which drove the initiative) have quickly realised what the move has cost them. The move is likely to mean a huge drop in traffic for many of the Spanish media outlets that regularly appear on Google’s news site in the country, a situation that could ultimately lead to a climbdown by the Spanish government.
Germany’s largest news publisher, Axel Springer, recently reversed its decision to remove links from Google News after traffic to its websites plummeted. The experiment lasted a mere two weeks.
Following its decision to return to Google News in Germany, Axel Springer CEO Mathias Doepfner admitted his firm would’ve “shot ourselves out of the market” if it had stayed off the site and continued to ask Google U.S. for licensing fees."

Found a possible workaround.
Install Brave browser.
In Menu (3 bars top right) choose "New private window with Tor" (may take a moment to connect)
Go to news.google.com and read away.
Note you still won't find much from Spain, choosing "Your local news" will take you to US news.
