Ouch thats bit harsh, looks worse in bold dark print too. Sounds like being told to butt out of discussion simply because somebody deems you 'know' nothing about the subject and do not take part in it. That could include many folks on forums on many subjects.

Good we've got the weather report sorted :) Also that we agree that this thread topic is critical.

However for the first time in years on the forum - we may disagree - but just a bit:

I dont understand what you are asking. I read all your (usually very informative) posts and understand that rumours can be misleading, but are you asking us NOT to discuss this? Something as important as this? We arent golfers but the course and importantly, what it entails for CE is hugely important to us. So we are equally interested/committed and also have contacts that we can discuss this with. I share that on this forum. Also even the golfers have differing views... and golfers certainly don't hold all the cards or info on this.

So, I'd rather not differentiate between golfers and non-golfers. We all have a LOT invested in CE, financially and emotionally. In the event of a crisis on the golf course we will all suffer the outcome and resulting effects on CE. The golfers will suffer a somewhat more in 1) the membership problems and 2) having to travel further to play... and 3) maybe something else 'golfy' that I don't understand. But we are all equally invested.

I remember many discussions where topics much smaller than this have blossomed out - creating huge discussions. This is only 2 pages and 30 posts. Also after your previous post, that you mention, (on rumour-avoidance) the posts became more factual i.e discussions with MF management, bank transfer info, opinions on the 'footfall' on the course, its cost etc. etc.

I suggest, with respect, that it is going to be difficult to manage conjecture on something as important as this.

However I think I've said my bit, unless something new comes up. Initially very worried, then on my friend finding out MF opinion made me feel better as it makes biz sense, then interested in the discussions on the viability of the course.

Still there's no smoke without fire and I always look around for a barge-pole when talking about MF :)

Looking forward to your posts and a bit o' the usual banter :)

Regards
Jon

Hola,
Have I missed something? Does Bryony have a talking horse that can predict the weather? Mr. Ed?;)
Golfers play in all sorts of weather. I should know...:frown:
Greetings from a sunny, windy, rainy Scotland!

Yes, I understood, thanks. I just rambled on about additional stuff in my post! For me the golf course's 'footfall' (got that word from the Apprentice on TV!) is critical in CE. I agree we need to get a bunch of people using it, paying money to pay the costs, as a lot depends on it. Like the club and maybe even Jag's... and most importantly, for me, this all leads to the attractiveness of CE (even though a non-golfers, one of the main reasons we bought was because we were on and overlooking a lovely golf course)

Fadesa say its a going concern and yet people like you, that know all the costs, are concerned. And I'd rather give credence to experience over talk, especially from MF!

I was speaking to Gavin last year (resto owner in town - for those new members) and he told me that his 'high season' was when the golfers came after the summer heat. Therefore was expecting business to be good in this period. Of course he serves other courses too, but CE must be important.

Great to hear the weather is lovely, Im sitting at home with the noise of a rainstorm as I write  cant wait to get back ... very soon

So come on, golfers, buy your air tickets! And come to a wonderful corner of the world - bring your checkbooks as there's some great property deals to be had

Hi Jon, me again !

I have tried to find a hotel in Ayamonte, wanting to come AND play CE beginning of January ! Guess what ... no hotels available in Ayamonte at all and this (is my understanding) will last the whole winter ! Because I do not like Islantilla, I am looking at Vilamoura instead. Very disappointing though, since I love Ayamonte town !
Is not going to help the course a great deal if no hotels are available !

Would be great if Vincii were to open a 5 star hotel at Esuri.
The workers from the closed Vincii Isla Canela Golf hotel, and the closed Oasis hotels in Isla Cristina and Islantilla might find new employment here. Taxi drivers would get more fares. Small businesses might consider opening shop, a bus route, etc, etc.

Have you tried the Parador? I don't think it closes.

Hi Olivia,
Thanks for the tip, but... just tried it and it is full. The closest I can get is Villa Real de ... which I believe is the other side of the river ? Not really what I am looking for.
:(

Good deal going on at Monte Rei, might consider that one.

Have you tried one of the letting agencies on Esuri - they are usually very good and who weve always rented out from - i would imagine the prices have come down as well with it not being school holidays here in England - they may now be on a par with a hotel ?????
Take care

We may not be directly involved but i think we are still have a right to post about CE - as you say i dont play golf but my hubby and son do when we come over and would be gutted if the course did close as that might affect our holidays in the future - i love coming to CE and hope the course continues for the sake of all the golfers AND US NONE GOLFERS who just like the atmosphere and people of CE

Hi Anne... yes the hotels do shut down... I agree its a real shame. It doesnt help the picture.

However Villa Real de Santo Antonio VRSA is not that far, probably quicker to CE than the Isla Canela hotels and you are in a town with lots of bars and restos, and in the day there is a nice ferry to Ayamonte so you can go in on foot (or the car) and come back later... if you are not golfing. The taxi is probably about 5 Euros more - maybe 10.

Its not what you want, I know, but from a distance perspective, I would recommend it over Villamoura which is about 45-50 minutes drive. However if you are planning on golfing in a number of courses you can stay at quite a few places between CE and Villamoura and within 30 minutes have a lot of choice.

Anyway we are a bit of topic here - but I hope you find a solution. Someone mentioned a short term let, that might be a good idea if you want to focus around CE... and if you posted on the forum, somebody might let their place to you as well.

Thanks for your help on the other thread and hope all is well with your plans

Jon

Hi Jon

Didn't mean to hijack your thread ... just to wanted to point out the hotel situation. Mind you, all hotels mentioned here are FULL by my knowledge, only 2 are closed this winter. This must be good for the course ! I hope with all my heart that CE will survive these troubled times, and that businesses, especially the golf course which is the main attraction in my opinion, will pull through ! Any person visiting the area for the first time, must fall in love with the beauty and peace around there and wants to come back over and over again. To all of you there (golfers and non golfers), keep strong and especially : Keep the faith !!!
My plans are still in struggling face, but there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. If I had the courage, I would live in CE now !

Take care
Anne :)

Good luck to you all !!!

On our way to CE in the next 24 hours and can't wait. Even if Jags is not open we are looking forward to a relaxing 2 weeks wherever we go, drink or eat. Hope the golf club is doing well and look forward to some drinks and food on the terrace, hopefully in the hot sun. Is there any live music planned over the 14 days??
