And don't forget - while you wait for this to happen you can still apply for your Irish passport if your parents or grandparents were born there.

So was I until Brexit. Now, regardless of the final UK position, I can still enjoy EU citizenship by virtue of being an Irish citizen

I was traveling and working in Europe before the EU came into existence and personally it has offered no improvement, possibly even a retrograde step.
I will be pleased should it ceases to exist.

Anticipating the future problems with the EU, some years ago, we applied for and obtained Spanish nationality, it was painless, but now it is more difficult an exam to take and a fee to pay. Plus the application can take years to process

However there are advantages, inter island travel is easier, no passport needed and surprise surprise, a substantial reduction on the car insurance premium, plus because I am an old git, one passport will last me the rest of my life.
