How do you know if it is electronic ? It's rather messy in photo copies.

On the front cover of mine at the bottom there is a a small oblong icon horizontally split with a circle in it see photo. I believe this is a clue.

Also the last page is laminated both sides and on the side behind the photo is the micro-chip.

Jul 24 - Long Pedestrian Queues To Enter Gibraltar This Morning

There were lengthy pedestrian queues to enter the Rock this morning as Spanish law enforcement agents conducted another trial run of the new electronic entry system. Pedestrians crossing the frontier were taking around 25 minutes to enter Gibraltar at 10am.

According to witnesses, there were numerous teething problems with the system including a failure to recognize ID cards and passports.

In addition, later on this morning, there was also a long queue of cars stretching halfway to the Rocamar Hotel.

“This is further evidence of the mess the frontier is in,” said one commuter.

“It strikes me that this new system is just blocking people on the way in as well as on the way out,” he added.

The front of mine is the same but there It doesn't have the penultimate page with official observations etc, that is opposite the photo etc on page 2 where there is also the split oblong with the circle. No sign of a chip anywhere!

Two of Gibraltars favourite Spaniards

Margallo under investigation

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo is allegedly being Investigated for tax payments as an MEP. The investigation has been ordered by Spain’s Minister for Finance Cristóbal Montoro.

Also under investigation is former Minister Arias Canete. The news was revealed by Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda in his blog. Finance, he reported, was investigating Garcia-Margallo and Arias Canete for their tax payments as MEPs, with Montoro ordering the tax authorities to investigate the tax payments of both men

OHL reaches ‘end of the road’ in tunnel case as Gibraltar wins appeal in London

Gibraltar Government has confirmed that the Court of Appeal in London on Friday decided to refuse OHL leave to appeal to the United Kingdom’s Supreme Court. The Court of Appeal had previously refused the appeal that OHL had brought against the decision of the High Court that had found in favour of the Government of Gibraltar in the tunnel case.

Hopefully now this project can get underway again and bring to an end traffic having to cross over the runway when entering or leaving Gibraltar

Spanish National Police complain of understaffing at frontier - and warn Spanish Govt of conflict

The Spanish National Police are complaining of understaffing at the frontier and are warning the Spanish Government of the conflicts that could arise unless the matter is urgently rectified.

It follows what the Gibraltar Government itself has described as “disgraceful scenes” at the frontier last Thursday when, in temperatures above 35 degrees, long pedestrian queues ensued all the way back to the runway control barrier.

But the police at the La Linea frontier are incensed that the go-ahead has been given without proper staffing. They say that 15 police officers are required at the frontier for the new system to work properly, when only seven per shift are in operation.

I personally think this is brilliant, install a fully automatic frontier and then have to double the staffing level.
All suggested by the EU

Typical ukipian narrow mindedness, complain when the EU does not intervene and then complain when it does.

I've just been on the phone to a frontier worker.

Thursday night he and his wife went to the frontier on a m/cycle, parked and joined the long queue ( m/cycle to frontier and walk across is a favourite of many ) After 10 -15 minutes with no movement he left his wife in the queue whilst returning to work and collecting the company car.
Took the car back to the frontier picked his wife up and drove straight through, no vehicle queue.

This morning he joined the pedestrian queue on the Spanish side and entered Gib a hour later.

His experience of new machines is it takes around six attempts to get the passport read, each attempt takes at least a minute generally resulting in a refusal message. He is also observing similar failure rates with people at other machines.

The only ones complaining about the changes they wanted the EU to enforce which it now has are our resident kippers.
