A Resolution recognising Gibraltar’s right to self-determination has been submitted by the House of Representatives and referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

It resolves that the views and rights of Gibraltarians always be imperative in any discussion on Gibraltar’s status as a British Overseas Territor and recognises the right to this status following the Treaty of Utrecht.

Gibraltar, it states, has the right, under the United Nations Charter and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to determine its own future, adding the United Kingdom is a loyal ally that has always stood by the United States

EU Ambassadors are understood to have approved the mandate for treaty negotiations with the UK on Gibraltar’s future relationship with the EU, according to Spanish press reports.

European Ministers now have to give the mandate the green light, although this is just a formality,

According to the news agency EFE, the mandate makes specific reference to Frontex officers for the first four years with this having to be renegotiated then.

Spain asked for this to be included after Gibraltar and the UK said negotiations were a non-starter if Spanish Officers controlled the entry points to the Rock.

The mandate is expected to be published on Tuesday

The Government note that the European Council (ECOFIN) has today authorised the opening of
negotiations for a treaty between the United Kingdom and the European Union to govern the future
relationship between Gibraltar and the EU. This follows approval by ambassadors of the 27 EU Member
States on Friday.

Part of the address made recently to the Forth Committee of the United Nations:-

Madam Chair,

I have the honour to address you today as the representative of the Government of Gibraltar in the United States of America.

I do so on behalf of the Chief Minister of Gibraltar who has tested positive for COVID-19, which means that neither he, nor the Deputy Chief Minister as a close contact, have been able to travel to New York.

It is an honour for me to represent the people of Gibraltar here today.

Though small in number, we are a proud people who have inhabited our home at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, the famous Rock of Gibraltar, for over three hundred years.

Three hundred years is a long time, Madam Chair.

Three hundred and seventeen to be exact.

This is longer than Italy, Germany or the United States have existed as nation states.

Indeed, it is longer than many of the Member States of the United Nations have existed.

And in those 300 years, a unique population has made Gibraltar their home.

A population separate and distinct from that of the Administering Power, the people of Gibraltar have distinct characteristics of their own.

The Full address :-

The GSD says that Gibraltar’s business community considers the introduction of VAT as a “red line” in the EU Treaty Negotiation. The party says this has been highlighted in an article in the latest issue of the Chamber of Commerce business magazine and similar concerns have been expressed directly to the GSD by the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses.

Of course what would resolve all of these problems is that Gibraltar follows the will of its people and becomes a full member of the EU.After all they voted to stay in the EU did they not?
And of course if the NI Protocol has to be renegotiated because because one party ie the UK govt does not like what it signed up to then surely the same applies to the Treaty of Utrecht as it is clearly not working....

Listen Fred, the tories have done the dirty on the unionists in Northern Ireland and left them high and dry, when it comes to promises over brexit.

Gibraltar can expect the same treatment!

Don't hold your breath for any favours from London....

I think you will now find that due to the reality of what is at stake for Gibraltar to keep it's ties with the EU a new referendum would have a different result.

Remember the people of Gibraltar are witness to the events surrounding N.I.

The only people not recognising / abiding by the Treaty of Utrecht are the Spanish and their cronies.

The problems that surround the NI protocol are 100% the fault of the UK government. It is the UK government that signed up to the deal to secure the brexit deal. Boris Johnson lied to the people of Northern Ireland. The unionists believed what he said and then they discovered, he did the dirty on them and put a border down the Irish sea.

David Frost realised that Boris was pulling the carpet from underneath his feet in relation to a hard Brexit. It is going soft everywhere, including any talk of triggering article 50 by the UK government. I notice it has all gone quite on that topic.

So back to Gibraltar... It does not bode well if you think London is going to back up Gibraltar in relation to the fallout from Brexit.

It does not matter who said what or what anyone believed

The reality is that the mood in Gib has changed since the Brexit vote, as per my post earlier today.

We will have to be patient and await the final reckoning.

Although I have contingency plans for various scenarios.
