The problem is you would be talking about the state seizing private assets. Unless the state was able to buy then at a hugely subsidised rate from the banks

No I'm talking about the places (perhaps unfinished) where the developer has gone bust, and the banks are now amenable to whatever deal they can get.

Giving homes away? Dangerous commie talk! ;)

You can't put young families in a place like that, the whole thing looks like a purpose built slum/ghetto, I can't believe anyone thought that would look good:thumbdown:

Do you have a downer on young families :rofl::rofl:

As I said earlier, convert it to a prison, better still bulldoze it.

You are looking at things from a British point of view, Spanish people like in a lot of other counties like living in flats, and we dont have such a downer on flats as people for the UK do.

You would be surprised that some flats that look quite bad on the outside, will be nicely laid out and good spacious family homes on the inside.

With unlimited money I would always choose a luxury flat over a detatched house, and most of the Spanish people I know would.

I've had nice flats and by no means look down on flats/apartments but those Spanish ones are not nice. I'm giving very serious thought to one at the moment in Cardiff Bay, three beds well appointed wonderful views and may make a good buy to rent (for a while) if he'll come down another 15K but its in a different league to the ghost town flats.

Could the local authority take the development over?, make a sort of housing estate and rent out to low income/out of work families? Rescue the buildings, make it a social project.

I've seen inside these flats on Spanish TV, they are actually pretty nice with lovely communal gardens and pool. I'd have no problem living there if they were in a better location!

first of all the British Govt owns most of the banks, and should be looking for a commercial return on OUR MONEY that was lent without our permission.

but more importantly whichever country you are talking about
NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE THERE ! ! !

there are no shops, no buses, no trains, no police, no hospitals etc - absolutely NO SUPPORT FACILITIES !!

In Cape Town they closed down the old slum area called Sector 6 and moved all the occupants 20+ miles away to a new area called SOEWETO, look what happened there.

Spain built an airport at Ciudad Real, with an AVE station on the side, except the train people didnt want to stop there (if effected their times), no one wanted to work there, no one wanted to land there because they had no facilities, no other transport - just a waste of money.

In 50yrs time it will be a dust blown ghost town and Tony Robinson will be including it in a TimeTeam special on Planning Cockups ! !

What?

The British government doesn't own Spanish banks

The original plans were to have the support services all in the town itself, but since they havent sold the flats they havent been able to put them in

what is the use of "original plans" ?
never seen the "promises" made in the Costa's about pools, grassed walkways, services that have never been kept ! ? !

If you build a "fun place to be" without the infrastructure at the same time then it will never come about !!
It happens all over the world. In the UK we had a huge estate that was occupied over 10 years ago and they have only just got round to building a school. In the meantime the poor kids had to be bussed across the town, adding to the traffic problems with mums on the kids run before going to work etc etc.
It does not work.
Build a new town, build the facilities or it will become a ghost town

Simples - even for you.

Yes very simple, when the developers who were building the town have already gone bust

never looked at why ??

it is always Homes First, Second, Third
support facilities will come in the fullness of time.

why build a whole estate - and fill it - without a school?? (the one they have now built is too small and has got to have a large extension)
why build a whole estate - and fill it - without a shop?? (Tesco's are 2.5miles by road)
why build a whole estate - and fill it - without a doctor's??
that is direct UK experience, and it has happened in Spain as well in more than one place.

the politicians, beaureaucrats, planners, builders etc should be forced to build the infrastructure along with the homes.

builders know they have to sell to stay alive, no sales no company
again Simples

I would have agreed with his words if he had added 'some' before the word Spanish.

Social behaviours are more often the result of the institutions and ideologies which govern them, rather than linked to a specific culture, nationality or race.

For example, when children of any culture are raised in an abusive environment, they typically become abusive in adulthood. Same applies for those raised in environments promoting entitlement, corruption, nepotism, and deflection of responsibility.

It's no surprise, then, that the latest generation of societies who have been raised in such environments increasingly appear to exhibit some of the same characteristics.

Today's common expectation of "entitlement" without the need for sacrifice or contribution ("I'm entitled! - it's someone else's problem/fault, not my responsibility"), and the resulting jealousy and spite for those who were astute enough to assume responsibility, and now enjoy the benefits of their sacrifices and contributions - are among the common character traits which come to mind these days.

I hesitate to reply, and I'm not generally a rude person, and I love to observe human behaviour, at any level; I revel in the unexpected, I've read War and Peace (with difficulty), I regret having been rude to Lush Daddy, I worry about the pound Sterling, and the Ghost towns around where I live.

But what the xxxx are you talking about?

Take a bit more water with it? You're a silly sod, my Spanish diet allows me two whiskeys a week and I'm choking on fish and salad. I'm allowed strawberries and yoghurt, and I'm getting close to my fighting weight.

I was 12 stone four, in 1974. I suppose you're going to insult me now by calling me an old boy.

I don't mind, when you're off the vino, you can be a nice guy, when you're on it, you're like the rest of us, a nasty piece of work.
