Getting Insured for the move!!

Does anybody have any advise on which insurance company will provide cover for personal belongings being shipped by a third party transport company if they have not packed the boxes?
What is the approximate cost of this cover?
Is there a better way of doing this?

Thanks

We took a gamble with this when we moved and saved a lot of money. Basically, we self-insured, on the grounds that:
if normal stuff broke/disappeared it was replaceable;
we couldn't be bothered to filter/chuck junk beforehand so we didn't want to pay to insure that even though we were paying to ship it;
if irreplaceable stuff went, then it would still be irreplaceable and an insurance payout wouldn't help anyway;
if we lost everything it would be a great chance to start from scratch;
we didn't want to be forced into buying like-for-like under an insurance payout, if we didn't want to replace things;
the payout wouldn't cover the cost of the hassle of sorting out a disaster.

Nothing happened, so we saved a lot - a thousand or so at least, IIRC.

We have been thinking along the same lines, we intend to self move, hire a van, or buy a cheap one and drive to Alicante. not insuring is possibly a mistake but we agree, the only items that are priceless are just that so the insurance is a waste of money :)

Thanks for the comments. I know what you mean about the risk. Not sure if everything about this is a risk!!
Since posting the question I have done some more research and come up with a company that will ensure the load from door to door for £200 covering total loss and accidental damage, which I reckon has got to be worth it.

Thanks anyway
