Getting broadband without a landline??? Any help, desperate.!!!!

HI

My Dad recently moved into a finca on a new urbanisation just outside alicante in the mountain nearest town tibi.

His neighbour 200m up the road has a landline, but people have told him he can get a line in , but apparently it takes up to 2 years to get a number .

Is this true, if so is there any way of gettng him hooked up to broad band without a phone line, as we have totally lost or communication now he is there.

My friends dad is in spain at the mo, and was using a microwave transmitter/traciever?? on a hill side and they paid 250eu for it between a few and paid for chuncks of bandwidthg of someone. Does anyone know what im talking about, if so can you fill me in.

Otherwise can you fill me in on other ideas to get him hooked up to internet for the cheapest. HJe has a datacard from vodaphone.es, but its expensive.

Please help as he is old and im moving to australia next year so i cant just nip and see him so we need communication.

thanks for looking

I hope I am wrong, but no. Without a phone land line via cable or satellite, he's hopeless in his attempts to get broadband.

As I said on another thread, he can get a mobile phone on a pay by basis. I hope you sort this problem out. Good wishes.

When I first brought my house, I didn't have landline, but told I could get a satelite telephone which I could have broadband with it. The local agent for telephonica told me that. However I did end up getting landline so didn't investigate any further. May be worth having a chat to them, someone who speaks English may be able to help.

Good luck.

He can use 2-Way Satellite Broadband. It does not require a telephone land line.

As well as broadband he would be able to use the system to allow him to make and receive telephone calls.

Costs are coming down but it is still expensive. At the moment the hardware and installation is about 2,000 Euro and monthly costs 90 Euros.

If a group got together costs would be less.

Best
