German's Great Idea

Re: German's Great Idea
There is also a couple of concrete things they are doing in relation to the crisis and not just 'maybe' something proposed by the AITA -
"For the next three months, Germans will be able to travel the country for just €9 (£7.50; $9.50) a month in a drive to tackle the soaring cost of living. All local and regional transport on trains, buses and metro is included in the government's initiative, although inter-city trains are not. However, fuel tax has also been reduced by around 30 cents a litre for petrol, bringing prices down below €2. The tax has been brought down to the EU minimum, again for the next three months, so diesel prices are also being cut by around 14 cents a litre." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61656639 |
Re: German's Great Idea
Has always amazed me that the UK government doesn't encourage pensioners to move abroad, freeing up so many resources in the UK.

Most of the rest of the world doesn't want pensioners unless they are rich as they then become a drain on resources in the host country. Don't think the S1 is a worldwide thing. So the Uk wont pick up medical and hospital treatment everywhere. Cant just pack up and move to Australia as a pensioner (well some can if their kids have permanent residence).. But you still need to show you can support yourself at the country where you are going to's level. Just checked and Australia no longer offers a retirement visa... |

Well the huge Uk pension would be one reason why the EU (whilst the Uk was in it) was a good place to go. (sarcastic mode on)

I was thinking more of Europe, which would probably be a more preferable destination.
Yep but with brexit most EU countries are out of the average Brits reach financially now (although sell the house, take private pension and its not impossible) To be honest its a minority of Brits who moved abroad every year anyway. Most are happy staying in the Uk and just holidaying in the sun for a fortnight each year.... |

not everyone likes hot weather and mosquitos. Don’t forget the UK is an obese nation. The idea of being in swimwear all summer is a nightmare for them
