I believe that importing a foreign car into Spain, from another EU country, is the same for all EU countries. I bought such a car from Germany, but the previous, British owner had already imported it. He used the same Gestor who imports British cars as well.

It's also easier from other parts of the EU, because there are no problems with the headlights, and the steering wheel is on the right side (the left).

Hi, does anyone know the approx cost for a motorhome from Germany??.
would a (friendly) car dealer do all the paper work (at a price)?.
Thanks, tuk-tuk.

Re: German car into Spain?

Apart from a Gestor, the Spanish motoring organisations also deal with car imprtatiion, e.g. RACE., it's just like the RAC or AA back home.

The expat papers are full of private specialists too, both English and German, e.g. the Costa Blanca News has a sister paper in German, the Costa Blanca Nachrichten.

The cost depends on all sorts of factors, but the private specialists are usually cheaper.

I've also found that the Germans don't seem to bother too much about importing their vehicles into Spain, maybe the Guardia Civil consider that at least they've got proper headlights and the steering wheel on the proper side.

I could be wrong, maybe there's just fewer of them.

The Dutch guy I do a few jobs for got a tug for having his Dutch reg jeep here, so took it back as it was too dear to change over.

Hi

Importing a "normal" car is not difficult - knowing how to save money & time is. However for anyone with Spanish - certainly possible.

However Motorhomes are different. They have put in new regulations about the "certificate of European Conformity". If you have one, all well ad good. If not it is about 1800 eurs from the place in either Barcelona or Madrid.

Why was it so it so expensive?

On a recent trip up to NL we saw loads of german reg cars on the back of spanish trucks. There is a locla dealer near us who imports ex German cars soit can be done with all the correct paperwork

I don`t know, but it was about half of what it was worth, so he took it back to use there and bought a Spanish BMW coupe to run about in here, (maybe just an excuse, lol).

Much better to drive too. ;-))
