Gas boiler
Hi, we have never had our gas boiler checked, and that needs rectifying. We’ve been getting flyers in our letterbox from different companies advertising themselves as gas checkers. I understand that many people have changed their boilers to electric. I’d appreciate thoughts on this. Thanks Kim

(2) We changed to electrice from gas for a number of reasons. The main reason was simply convenience. |

Re: Gas boiler
I am so glad I changed to electric much more convenient - no butano to lug around (OK some have city gas) no safety checks, modern elec ones are economical and cheaper to buy than gas, no flue/fumes....no brainer for me.

Re: Gas boiler
Yes I opted for a Fleck Duo as well - works very well and slimline.

Re: Gas boiler
They should be checked every two years by law, in Catalonia this is done by a technician going to your house to check it and you being billed via your gas company.

Re: Gas boiler
Thanks all, we don’t have gas bottles , it’s main so that isn’t a problem. Is the electric cheaper to consume than gas?

Heat pump water heaters use electricity to move heat from one place to another instead of generating heat directly. Therefore, they can be two to three times more energy efficient than conventional electric resistance water heaters. https://ec.europa.eu/energy/eepf-lab...ter-heaters_en |
Re: Gas boiler
i think if we changed to electric it would trip the electricity. Its so flakey in the house. Often trips when in shower & washing machine on then some one puts kettle on ....

Re: Gas boiler
I'm in a house with gas (for hot water only) after always using electric everywhere else I've lived and I must say that although it's inconvenient (lugging gas bottles around ain't fun) it does come out rather cheap at roughly one bottle per month with 4 persons in the household. Makes me wonder how much the electricity would cost if I were to switch.

"flakey".. its correct.. thats exactly what it is supposed to do. If you are contracted for 2.2kw or 3.3kw etc etc.. and you have the washing machine and the kettle on, that can be 3kw - 4kw in one go. Imagine if it didnt trip.. and everyone used whatever they wanted.. the cables would be melting and there would be fires all over the place... |
Re: Gas boiler
That should not happen as the current would still have to pass through the normal circuit breakers. The ICP trip is entirely to do with your bill.
When we built our hose and contracted for the dual tariff, the ICP was not required so we could take as much as we liked without any problems. They ultimately changed that just so they could charge us a much higher monthly charge. |

I cant imagine that everyone on one transformer putting everything on for hours on end would do much good, it might not catch fire, but who knows, that much current flowing through one box is not gonna be good for it, is it ? Disclaimer : I´m NOT suggesting that anyone still with an old meter should do this, its very dangerous! This is NOT the opinion of this forum, only me. |
