It has large pear shaped, green-yellow fruit, furry like peach, and very hard. I think it's used for jam. Close-up of the leaves. |

Nispero or quince ?

Re: Gardening
The nisperos my friend and I had last week were very small. Could be quince, not sure how big they are.

Definitely quince ! I looked both up on wiki and it matches quince. How 'bout that ? I have a quince tree ! Many thanks Capitans Wench, I've been asking people for ages. |

If you want to make 'membrillo, it needs an awfully unhealthy amount of sugar to set. |
Re: Gardening
Yes, looks like Quince. I have one here.
The fruits a bit further forward than that, though I'm a bit further South here. Mine just popped up out of nowhere, not another one around here that I know of. I didn't know what it was at first until it grew a bit, now it gets really loaded with fruit, makes brilliant crumbles I've found. |
Re: Gardening
Thank you Capitans Wench, Rosemary, Euzkadi and DD.

Thought there must be more attractions up there than the rubbish weather. Ah well, looks like you'll just have to grow your own now. |
