Unfortunately this fire is not the first and neither will it be the last this year.
The tragedy is the lost of a unique environment in Europe.

This is the news from a local newspaper.
There are 4 pages in the search results about the fires this year in Galicia.
It is oh so dry.

The grass is as dry as I have ever seen it in the ten years I've been coming here

There are some pretty sick people around. Such a shame that they manage to cause so much damage.

The fires that are started deliberately are not the acts of "sick" people in the way that I think you mean, ie arsonists.

They are in most cases started by professional arsonists, not for the buzz of watching a fire, or "gamberradas" but for economic reasons.

The following explains some of the reasons for setting fire to land in Galicia, which has the most forest fires in Spain,

http://incendios-forestales.blogspot.com.es/

they are causing hardship, expense and damage, but they are benefitting financially from the burnings and will continue to do so, it has become a way of life sadly.

Don't worry not all of Galicia is burnt or on fire. We have plenty of beautiful nature and cities for you to explore.
Just this one has hit at the heart of the Galician’s because of its uniqueness. Two other areas have suffered fairly large amounts damage in recent fires are south of the Province of Ourense near to Verín (where a fire fighter was killed) and in the mountains of O Courel.
and it is not only in Galicia where the fires are occurring:León
I cannot recall the last time I heard about fires in Asturias either
