The Murcia distillers come up with the cheapest gins here, some at three or four euros a bottle. You can always find them, they have excruciatingly British names like 'Toby's Gin' or some-such. They will be rough and nasty. In Spain, you ask for your gin (or anything else) by name.

Is there room in your freezer for any food?

Mine is stuffed so full with half a wild boar plus three months' worth of vegetables from the huerto that I can barely fit in the ice, let alone bottles of gin, vodka, tequila etc!

I once had some Danish stuff that had to be kept in the freezer - Aquavit? Tasted like rocket fuel but the afterburn was very pleasant.

Update

Eroski have lowered their Larios price from £8.33? to £5.99 bringing it more in line with Main St prices.

They are now stocking Nordic Mist tonic at £0.41 making them the only Gibraltar stockist.

I no longer have any need to visit Spain.

I heard G&T referred to far more often in Spain than I ever did in the Uk, yet I never met anyone who actually drank it.

I don't know if you can get this Gin in Aldi in Spain but just shows most expensive not always the best per the experts.

Good news for budget buyers. Ive sent the link to friends who (like me) have no problem going to LIDL/ALDI. Sadly there is a snob-value thing where some people criticise these stores. This link shows them how they can be, at times, wrong!

Cant remember which one, but they had a wonderful advert last year... lady comparing ALDI Tea to PG tips that her husband likes ..... well dont let me spoil it if you haven't seen it here it is... .. best ad in ages....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCKgCkubGc0

Good to know that they can also have quality products that match this quality ad!!

Good ad.

Noticeable that the Aldi box of 160 is considerably smaller that the PG 160, presumably smaller bags ?

Can't see them being as good, anyone know any different ?
Possibly much milder/weaker ?

From what I've see us Brits prefer a proper cup of strongish tea whereas the less well educated bloody foreigners seem to settle for the weak and watery stuff.

Anyone else find this ?

I never ask for tea if invited to have a drink at anyone's house, it's always like dishwater compared to how I like it. No idea what the tea from Aldi or Lidl is like, some kind friends always bring us big boxes of Yorkshire teabags when they come over to their holiday home - proper stuff you can stand the spoon up in!

I remember when visiting my relatives in Wales that they made their tea by the "passover" method - just so long as the white of the milk had the smallest of colour to it.
YUK
Like you I like to be able to taste the tea, with the smallest amount of milk.

Had a cafe tea last week - the girl was making more of a fuss about whether I wanted hot or cold milk
Think I had them all totally confused - might go back there this week and see if they remember how to do it properly

Can't understand why they often ask Caliente ?

What's the point of a cold or luke warm cup of coffee ?

There again it's often quite normal to serve food that's only luke warm at best, which upsets a lot of N.Europeans, especially us Brits who usually expect it to be served straight out of the oven, piping hot.

It surely tastes better that way.

I have no problem with Lidl, however I have posted before about the Kraut barstewards Aldi refusing to allow poppy sellers outside the first of their stores I came across in the North East.
Never been in an Aldi never will

Mind you I do like some of their adverts. the latest one for nappies is good.
