Fuel prices
Crude oil is now some 17 percent down from the highs. Certainly the Euro has weakened against he dollar but only by some 4 or 5 percent from the beginning of the year.
When I was in the UK I saw some petrol prices already dropping and now I hear supermarkets are conducting a price war.
Here in France there is no movement yet as far as I am aware.
No change on heating oil either.
Any cuts in price in Spain yet?

The trend over the last week of two has been downwards but only by 1 or 2 centimos.

Re: Fuel prices
Yes certainly Spain reacts much quicker than the UK to falls in oil price. Seems to take a supermarket price war or out right protests to come down in the UK unfortunately not the same when oil goes up, credit to Spanish Government for that.

£1.35 per litre in sainsbury (Surrey). There is also an extra 5p per litre off if you shop there and spend £50. I am told it is cheaper in the North of England.

Re: Fuel prices
We have just driven from Malaga to Dunkirk last weekend, diesel price in Spain along the toll road / motorways were around Euro 1:32/35, we then hit France, diesel fuel prices were around Euro 1:70 / 1:75 !! obviously we punched in Carrefore fuel stations on our Garmin GPS, found diesel at around Euro 1:35 / 40, yes you have to exit the toll road but when filling your tank its a big saving, yes you loose a little timne for a while but I found it worth it.

Re: Fuel prices
Morrisons now offering an extra 12p a gallon off!
Maybe because crude just fell another TWO dollars a gallon - nearly 20 percent down in just a few weeks.

Re: Fuel prices
Critical factor is that crude is traded in $ and the € is weak against that. Nowt to do with the £:€. nb Eroski, which has historically been pretty much the cheapest (specifically the Mijas outlet) was yesterday charging 1c more than a Repsol garage. What that means I don't know........I'll continue going to Carrefour whose 8% on my storecard is worth better than a couple of cents/litre on a tank!

Re: Fuel prices
Agree about € and crude.
But why is petrol going down in UK and Spain?
But ... NOT in France?

Re: Fuel prices
Good point Fiona, I always use my Carrefore loyalty card for fuel and groceries in Spain, but, when you present the same loyalty card in France they look at you as if you have two heads and from another planet, the Spanish card is not recognised in France ????

Re: Fuel prices
Fracman Ka Ora is your man there.
I think many supermarket chains in France are franchises - so many Carrefour are too. Might be why.

Re: Fuel prices
We were talking about petrol prices on the Italian board. I thought this might interest you.
Investigation reveals that on every litre of petrol or diesel you put in your tank, you are paying :
0.00103 euro for the War of Ethipia 1935 - 1936 (yep, Mussolini started the trend)
0.00723 euro for the Suez crisis of 1956
0.00516 euro for the Vajont dam burst of 1963
0.00516 euro for the Florence floods of 1966
0.00516 euro for the Belice earthquake of 1968
0.0511 euro for the Friuli earthquake of 1976
0.0387 euro for the Irpinia earthquake of 1980
0.106 euro for the Lebanon war of 1983
0.0114 euro for the intervention in Bosnia/Herzogovina 1996
0.020 euro for renewal of transport workers (autoferrotranvieri) contract 2004
0.0073 euro for conservation and maintenance of 'beni culturali'
0.040 euro to finance influx of immigrants due to Libya crisis 2011
0.0089 euro Liguria/Tuscany floods autumn 2011
0.082 euro Save Italy decree 2012.
These are in addition to other taxes such as IVA, regional taxes etc etc.
It was on the news last night that they are going to add another tax for the recent earthquake.
