FRIGLIANA INFO
 

Hello everyone - my husband and I are currently researching various areas on the Costa del Sol to find just the right place to settle. Re Frigliana, is anyone familiar with life in and around? Is there plenty to do/things to join, or is it away from 'it all'? What's it like in Summer/Winter? Does anyone live there whom we could meet on Thursday who would be kind enough to give us the lowdown??

We don't live there, but have friends there and have visited the village dozens of times over the years, and will be there for a week next month. Like a lot of places, I preferred it as it was, there has been a lot of building going on, mainly on the outskirts. The old town, is as it always was, very pretty, but quite steep in places with some houses hard to access. The burro in is constant use there transporting stuff to the top of the village. Quite a lot of expats there from all walks of life, complete with a couple of expat bars! It's certainly not "away from it all", it's only about 10 minutes to Nerja by car, plus a regular bus service. If you try andalucia.com, you might get more info, or pop into Fernando's, one of the Brit bars,(far end of the old town) they maybe able to help you.

Have only been there once, and they say the name Frigliana means cold, seems area very cold in the winter.

Not heard that one, but it seems anyone's guess where the name came from, there are loads of different ideas.

Load of rubbish, its only around 3 mile from the coast/Nerja ,motorway 2 miles, cold and damp? its the same as anywhere else in that region,loads of sunshine,
Steep hill`s .....well er yes, if you want amazing mountain views you get steep hills.

Agree, the "middle of nowhere" comment wasn't even worth answering, he clearly has no idea of the place. Cold and damp? yes, like you say, it is, but then I don't think I have ever stayed in a place in southern Spain in the winter that wasn't! :) Read this and other forums, people are forever moaning about damp, mould, black walls etc. I can perfectly understand someone not liking the place,(too touristy for me) but to suggest somewhere 3 miles inland is in the middle of nowhere is stretching it a tad!:confused:

A lot of houses are cold and damp in winter due to poor build quality , ask a Spanish builder what a damp course is and you will have him scratching his head :rofl:

In winter you can tell who has the dampest houses by the fusty smell of their clothes:rofl:

Personally, I love Frigiliana ... loads of charm but as has been said, getting quite built up on teh outskirts which is a shame. But then most moutnain villages are these days. ... mine included :frown:

Yes, Cómpeta is another place we have been visiting for donkeys years, and that has mushroomed as well. Someone we know used to live at the top of the village but have now moved up to Corumbela/Archez way, looking for something quieter. We have friends up above Canillas de Albaida as well, so still visit the area when we are out there.

Yes, all the nicest pueblos have been victims of their own success.:( I remember Mijas when there was just an unmade road to the place. Benalmádena pueblo was different too. It all goes downhill when the British start opening bars etc. Then there are all the day trippers...
