Another media BS article. One swallow doesn't make a spring, and one idiot who didn't realise that ending FoM would apply to him, doesn't make a useful story.

Most sensible people vote with the interests of them and their family at heart, some less sensible don't actually weigh up pros and cons before voting. It really does beggar belief that anyone who lives in Spain would vote out having used the freedoms provided by EU membership for their retirement or livelyhood. Some in fact are of course both thick and stupid as they believed they would continue to reap the benefits while others would not be allowed to. They had better start hoping for deal.

The only stupid thing is that anyone would think that Spain is going to summarily eject all British citizens after 3/29. If they're living on the bread line and relying on some sort of social support and/or charity, then I suppose there may be a risk, but self supporting British retirees in Spain who own a home or are fully capable of paying rent and living comfortably, are not going to be ejected.

TV clips like this lead me to question univeral suffrage. Should idiots be given the vote ?

Could you indicate where I made any mention of anyone being ejected from Spain?

Sorry, I mistakenly assumed you had read the article linked in post #1.

As Churchil once said - "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

I did but that does not mention people being ejected either? Just that people may choose to return if they end up financially worse off. I think one woman in the clip mentioned the often said comment "we expats are too valuable to Spain for them to kick us out " or similar. A comment I often hear but pay little attention to.

I really do not understand the issue with freedom of movement.
I lived in Germany for 9 years prior to Schengen. I did not need a visa every time I drove back to Germany. I had an international driving permit which I had to obtain prior to moving to other countries outside Europe and I recall the border control on the autobahn between Belgium and Germany. During all my travels I only ever showed my passport once at this location.
I will be resident in Spain and very rarely going back to the UK, but when I do, I will plan ahead.

it seems that people are getting very het up about nothing.

You're absolutely right! You don't understand the issue with freedom of movement.
