Default Fires over near La Drova, Nr Gandia

I hope Sir John is OK, from where we are we can see some terrible fires over towards what I think is La Drova / Barx area

Cant see any planes / Helicopters out and the wind is just whipping them up so they are starting everywhere

We are watching them fight it now. Two planes gathering water out to see and dumping it on the mountain. The complex where the past is, has a lot of technology by the looks of it
Areas of La Drova were evacuated last night, I havent seen Sir John posting today

Having a set of 20 x 90 binoculars means we can see quite a bit of what is going on

Yesterday and today there seems to have been a lot of activity in the air from my end. I guess that anyone in the area is too busy keeping an eye on the situation and how it effects them to be on here. Hope that this is under control soon.

It seems very early in the year to be seeing fires like this, you must certainly have had much drier weather of late than we have further South.

I hope it's brought under control very soon and without too much damage to life (human and animal) or property.

Has been covered in Málaga news, may have been a bunch of kids who caused it by negligence.

have to agree with Lynn R - over here they have given up trying to burn off the cuttings and detritus in the olive groves, its all too sodden.

Perhaps once it is all over it will be found to have been a smaller piece of arson that got out of control

Was around the area today.
There was still smoke this morning, but no smoke by lunchtime.
I saw 2 planes and at least 3 helicopters on water runs.
I think the planes were going to the beniares reservoir for their water, as the sea was a bit rough today.
The choppers were simply dropping for water in any available watering hole, they had found a nice big water tank just near the train station at xeraco, right next to the 332, to fill up with.
When I came back mid afternoon saw no activity at all.

This was reported a few hours ago:
"Residents are now returning to La Drova and Barx. No damage reported to properties."
And stil being reported that fireworks in BArx set it off.

Hi Mitz,
Have not been online few days.

SUNDAY afternoon was emptying a pool to clean and meanwhile as you do chillin with a few beers with my spanish neighbour, at 15.30 we could see Aa lot of bellowing smoke coming from the direction of BARX village,as time passed we could see some small fires starting in the mountains, helicopter arrived and dumped water from the resevoir held in la drova on the fires and it seemed succesful,so we thought no more of it,seemed all under control.
As darkness falls and everyone is indoors shutters down and gone to bed (i went to bed real early)..we are all oblivious to whats going down

At 4.00 am MONDAY i was awoken by my door bell which never happens!,so armed with my plethora of weapons...always be preapared or prepare to fail my motto...ha ha!! my neighbour said come look at what's happening up in the mountains right behind/near to us!,i was taken aback by a furious contagion of fires burning all the way and along the top and starting down the middle of the mountains from BARX to LA DROVA and quite near to my villa and others 200/300 metres maybe away no good distance but near enough to hear the sound of the burning pine trees.

The good old guardia were here of course, which is RARE because when you want them they are never there or are slow to respond very slow!,but generally good once there, they were telling everyone to PREPARE TO EVACUATE their properties, mainly becasue of SMOKE inhalation if direction of the wind changed which it was constantly doing.

Some people did leave their properties to go down to the LA DROVA FONT where a provision for people was organised and the ajuntamiento building in BARX was a place also to go for free coffe and a place to be,but a group of us 6 neighbours villas chose not to as we did not think it was nescessary yet, however we got changed and closed all our percianas/windows ect, dogs indoors, and watched in the road together.
Apparently there were 20 bomberos(fire engines) fighting the fires mountains!,there were really putting their lives on the line beacause th efires were very intense well done superb you guys!.

During the night NO helicopters or planes are allowed to put out the fires, which seems odd?,but i am reliably told by the police/tv crews/ajuntamiento/neighbours this is the reality because of the poor visibilty, well i thought they had search flood/lights and you could not really miss the fires?.

At 07.30 am the helicopters and sea planes dumped copiios amounts of water on the fires and worked tirelessly,so well done to these guys!,eventually all the fires were quenched, but in case of further flare ups all services were here until yesterday tuesday.

Finally i have never seen such fires and ferocity in such proximity!,yes it was a worry and concern for all,my neighbours were shocked concerned about the smoke not damage to their villas as they said unlikely to cath fire?,but it was dealt with superbly by the services here, police organised everything well and belled everyone in their villas, ajuntamiento looked after everyone well and helpfully,so can say a positive comment has to be made on living here in spain on the event that occured!!.

Apparently the "guardia told my neighbour" two 10 year olds boys were suspected in being involved in starting the fire at the swimming pool area high up in the village hidden away in BARX,as yet to be confirmed authoritively by the police, awaiting.
My posting a bit late apologies.
