I have had a couple of excellent one month stays at great price with AB&B. However i have also booked them at great price with monthly discount to shortly after have it cancelled because price quoted on site isnt what owner actually wants for the property it can often be substantially more. Now if i am considering a 1 month stay i always check with owner that price is as quoted before booking.

I had similar but usually because they hadn’t correctly applied discounts for long term stays so suddenly you were getting huge percentage off. If that happened I chose somewhere else.
I also contacted some Airbnb and asked if they could offer a discount for long term stays … don’t ask don’t get. They save on the change over costs so sometimes this worked fine.

Yes it would seem AB&B don't always work out the discounts with the owners. Whenever it has happened the owners have offered a discounted price for the month , you then have to decide if it fits your price range. Main point though is rather than being disappointed better to check the one month price with the owner with a message.

I am interested in any possible solutions as I am finding it increasingly difficult to cope with the Spanish summers and the high temperatures.

Moving to the Canaries would solve two problems at once. Pleasant summers and warm winters is what you can expect in Las Palmas, and if you want a bit more heat then you just pick the southern side of the island.

Currently 24-25C during the day this week and >20C in the winters too, which is why we don't need aircon or heating.

Add to that a 75% gov't rebate (for Canarian residents) on all flight to/from the Canaries to anywhere in Spain and those weekend trips to Madrid or Barcelona become a lot more affordable.
